In an archipelagic country like the Philippines, transmission costs are a burden. Just to add up to your article above, it's worth noting that islands and communities with hydropower potential could set-up their own off-grid systems instead of attempting to provide to the grid. Otherwise, the cons would outweigh the pros and might result to higher electricity cost. Reality after all is that in a third world country, a slight increase in price of electricity has a great impact to our household budget.
