Dalam beberapa dekade terakhir telah terjadi pergeseran populasi pedesaan ke kota-kota, sejak tahun 1950 ini telah lebih jelas dan Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa mengharapkan bahwa pada tahun 2030 satu dari tiga orang di planet ini akan hidup dalam konsentrasi lebih dari setengah juta penduduk.
Hanya 2% dari luas permukaan planet, lebih dari 54% dari total populasi planet hidup bersama dan perkiraan adalah bahwa pada tahun 2030 persentase ini akan mencapai 60%, dengan serangkaian kelebihan dan kekurangan. This type of waste is that which is related to the progression of technology, not only information technology but all that which represents a technological advance for society.
As water pollutants we could list medicines such as: antibiotics, analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, x-ray contrasts, etc. These substances also contaminate our flora and fauna by polluting the water.
That is why scientists are considering using mathematical models throughout the production cycle of these wastes (even before) to quantify their useful life and manage the disposal of these pollutants more efficiently.
