See the logline for the film and the choices for the Movie Title below.
Here is the logline for the film:
“Abandoned at birth, a troubled young man who dreams of being a rock star is befriended by a stranger, who keeps secret from the boy, he’s gay, dying, and his bio-logical father”
Keep in mind, you have the benefit of reading the logline. However, the public does not. The public usually only sees the title, a tagline, the poster and the trailer beforehand. We will be involving you in the selection those as well as we move forward.
However, we need the title to build around. The title has to get the film-goers attention, enough to draw them in and to buy a movie ticket.
So. here are your choices.
- “Stokers’ Furnace”
- “For the Love of Pete”
- “My Beautiful Rock Star”
- None of the above
- Your original suggestion - if selected you will receive the credit in the film..
Please, state your preference in the reply to this post.
"Better left unsaid"
that is good actually. someone copyright that before hollywood snags it.
It is good, but not sure it works. The lead character is so racked with guilt and shame he seeks to make restitution but for the wrong reason. Not for the boy but to clear his own conscience. Therefore, a voice in his head saying 'Better Left Unsaid"' would give him a way to clear his conscience without doing anything.
Better left unsung?
Now that's a great little twist. This has possibilities given the music connection which makes it more personal to the lead as opposed to 'Better Left Unsaid' which is too generic. I could see this being position as follows... in spite of his conscience telling him it's 'better left unsung' he musters the courage to act in spite of it. Need to think about this one long and hard. Good on you!
That is solid!
Unfortunately, a voice in his head saying 'Better Left Unsaid"' would give him a way to clear his conscience without doing anything.
Better Left Unsaid is golden, you got my upvote on that ingenious title, fits it nicely
It's a great title but probably not for this movie. Unfortunately, a voice in the lead's head saying 'Better Left Unsaid"' would give him a way to clear his conscience without doing anything.
Now that you mentioned that your lead is thinking very wisely in that concept of thought. Does kind of leave it open to suggest an out from dealing with the situations in a manner to do nothing at all. Lays the title out there too much to say, no story or dynamics coming at ya lol. Like the title though, maybe for another piece of work more fitting. Smart lead you got there, thinking it through
Thanks and take care.
THis is the best one IMO
As I said above, it's a great title but probably not for this movie. Unfortunately, a voice in the lead's head saying 'Better Left Unsaid"' would give him a way to clear his conscience without doing anything.
Good point
This! I would be so intrigued if I heard that title.

There are a few I like, this ranks up with them.

Interesting. Not sure it works though. The lead character is so racked with guilt and shame he seeks to make restitution but for the wrong reason. Not for the boy but to clear his conscience.
Or simply just "Pete""Jones"., one name is usually easily remembered. And people are going to be curious what the movie is all about, I agree with @meesterboom, too, enigmatic like
I considered 'Pete'. I went as far to think of stylizing it in 'baby' related font and/or background. But just couldn't make it work. I'll think about it some more, but my feeling is in this context it's hard to convey the essence of the film throw the one word without an action.
Understandable, how about Pete and _______ (name of the stranger), like "Thelma & Louise" or "Harold and Maude"? I like the story already. Best of Luck! 😊
"Underground"
It's a good title but given all the underworld stuff going on in film today, I'm not sure it would deliver on the story.
O.k., here's my suggestion: "Cradled by a Rock"
That's interesting actually. Can you expand your thinking for me?
I THOUGHT THAT THE HIDDEN FATHER AND THE MUSIC DREAM AND THE MUSIC STYLE ITSELF, BEING ROCK IN THIS PARTICULAR SITUATION, ACTED AS A ROCK IN HIS LIFE AND, FURTHERMORE, ACTED AS A REAL CRADLE ALLOWING HIM TO REBIRTH NO MATTER WHAT THE SITUATIONS IN HIS LIFE BROUGHT FORTH. THIS WAY, THE CRADLING OF THE DIFFERENT ROCKS IN HIS LIFE GAVE HIM THE OPPORTUNITY TO REDEFINE HIS PERSON AND, ULTIMATELY, HAVE A DIFFERENT OUTLOOK ON WHO HE IS.
THANKS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THESE THOUGHTS.
NAMASTE :)
That works. Music is the rock and unknowingly the tie that binds the stranger and the boy together. In the story though, which I know you don't have the benefit of, it's not enough. The boy needs a Dad but he feels he's broken goods and not worthy. Good stuff.
No child is broken enough not to be one's cold anymore. Therefore, the cradle and the rock seem quite appropriate as well... Joy! Thanks for the kind words.
Namaste :)
Good point.
"It's All a Fucking Joke"
I'm sorry you feel that way.
But that's life really
I guess it depends on your perspective and what you mean by 'joke'. Yes, we know where we're going to end up so one might say anything you do until then is for not. But I think it would be an awfully boring wait if we didn't try to spice it up a bit. Futile or not, it's amazing the joy you can find in the simplest of things if you're look for it. Just a thought.
well, a joke entails for one to be funny and laid back. This is what I meant. It can be taken any way you want really.
I think I get it now. Thanks.
This is headed in the right direction!
Thanks. And it's fun too! Ha!
Keep crushing it by bringing the movie people in :)

The Long Road Home.
Wow! This has legs! Lots of metaphors here. Especially good since the lead character, once he decides to try to make things better, travels back to Hamilton (The Hammer. Steel Town) full of doubt on his Harley at night. Good one. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks Brian. “Stokers’ Furnace” would be my second choice. Best of luck on the film.
Thanks. Take care.
my suggestion tittle "i upvoted for you if you follow me " lol
Ha! I guess there's some truth in that, but not for the movie!
nice....you deserve resteem and upvote...
OK, the stranger is gay and is also the young man's father. That means the young man's mother is actually a dad too. So how about? >>> Two Dads But No Mother
Actually, no. The rocker is deeply closeted. But as sometimes happens he sees no way out to fake being straight and to take a girlfriend. He struggles but when their relationship results in a child, the walls close in and he takes off. The girl thinks to pursue his rock career. She doesn't know he's gay. So he's running from himself not her. That's the sad story of it. Take care,
Should we really start the film project with such a drama pitch?
Probably not. But the more we can engage on aspects of the film the better, I think. Title drama stays with the film until it's released. I worked on the film 'The Farm' with Al Pacino and Colin Farrell only to find out on release it was changed to 'The Recruit" The point I hope people get from this is the incredible thought that goes into event the selection of a title. Remember the film 'Ishtar'?! Ha!
Yes I do, actually. DOP was famous Italian cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, right? (Was fortunate enough to had his lessons while he was filming Goya)
But, I didn't refer to title drama, I was referring to your logline :)
Aah! Sorry. In the logline it's supposed to be more irony than drama. I apologize if it appears to be overly dramatic so I guess I could have improved it by adding, "desperately in need of a father figure" as an example somewhere in the logline to emphasize the irony. Just a thought and thanks for the comments.
Welcome :) It really seemed to be a deep psychological drama with inevitably tragic end... :D
I think a cool name could be "Rocking in the Closet" controversial
I'm not sure it speaks to the film. In my mind it's not a gay movie. It's a father/son film. Sexuality happens to be part of the this story and closet brings the gay backdrop too much out front. Thanks for the effort.
Gotcha! Do you have a idea of what the father and son relationship ends up being? Or any other details? I just had a pretty hard altercation with my dad and relate to the theme very well. Feeling inspired about this right now and I'd love to throw out some more.
In the film, the dad's guilt is a two edged sword. The boy's mother thinks he abandoned them for his career but in fact he was running away from himself since he feared he couldn't play the role of husband and Dad since he's gay. That's the way it was 25 years ago. Then he falls in even deeper because he wants the guilt lifted from his shoulders so he goes about trying to make amends but for his own peace of mind and not the boys. And then he realizes almost too late that to fix himself he needs to be the father that the boy deserves to have. The roadblocks are many in the film. The boy starts seeing the stranger as a father figure. The father figure has sex with a young man that turns out to be the boys best friend. The son when he finds out that his best friend is in love with him and has had sex with his father figure starts questioning his sexuality and comes to the conclusion the stranger is simply using him trying to get into his pants. Then the kid believes himself broken and is near suicide. The ending I can't share with you except to say the boy does learn that the stranger is his biological father and he is dying and it does come together in the end. Does that help?
Very very much, let me do some critical thinking and I will get back to you after my work shift. SUPER EXCITED FOR THIS.
I like Closet Lullaby.

Familiar Frequency
Familiar Melody
Familiar Chords
Familiar Notes
Familiar Strings
Familiar Tones
Familiar Composition
Don't shot me but... I hate the word 'familiar' . There is no sense of the unknown, conflict or fear in the word. it's a word to stay clear of. Sorry. Besides, 'Better Left Unsung' is a thousand times better!
Glad I was able to help a little :)
For sure!
My Beautiful Rock Star , this is the best title :)
Thank you.
My vote goes to “For the Love of Pete”.
That's a great title, with a hint of fun, a hint of tragedy. It's human and inspires empathy.
Thank you. Good take on it as well.
This might give it away too much. "Thicker Than Water"
Do you mean this to be a take on 'Blood is thicker than water'? If so, I'm not sure of its context. I guess we could say regardless of how long he fights it, the fatherly instinct will win out because it's in our blood (the genes). I'll think about this some more.
You have to make it like in nowadays films.
So my suggestion is: Peter
You know, with the poster of his face and some cool lines.
Pete's Secret
Also cool!
This is a good twist on just 'Pete' This never crossed my mind, but it does tie really well into the reveal at the end of film... which I can't share with you at this point. So, I'm putting this forward for consideration and discussion. Good on you!
I considered 'Pete'. I went as far to think of stylizing it in 'baby' related font and/or background. But just couldn't make it work. I'll think about it some more, but my feeling is in this context it's hard to convey the essence of the film throw the one word without an action.
Well there is not only one word.
There is also the line of text, a sentence probably, to bring the idea forward. (on a posters and such)
The tagline... and we'll be looking at that as well, soon. Take care.
Rockstar's Closet
I'm not sure it speaks to the film. In my mind it's not a gay movie. It's a father/son film. Sexuality happens to be part of the this story and closet brings the gay backdrop out front.
“For the Love of Pete”
Thank you. We also considered 'For Pete's Sake' but felt it wasn't personal enough.
“For the Love of Pete”
Thank you!
Pete the Dreamer
You hit here on a real problem we were having. The kid's name is Boston. His mother changed it from Pete when the Dad left - maybe in spite. So in the film 'Pete' is the name of the Teddy Bear only and we can't change that because it factors into the reveal at the end of the film. So 'Pete the Dreamer' would be too confusing.
"The Taming of Pete's Dragon"
My sense is this title does not reflect the market the film is targeted to. It has too much of a kid's feel to it. Thanks for the effort though.
The sad reality
It could work as a title for a film but unfortunately it doesn't work here since there's no tie in to the story. It's too generic. Thank you though.
"Steamrock Love"
An excellent way to pay tribute to one of the greatest rock bands, Scorpions. Plus you got some Steem in the title. Any time someone will ask about the inspiration for the movie title, one can hint to both the Scorpion's "Steamrock Fever" and the Steemit comunity. :)
We'd like to introduce tonight
The kings of a brand new style
They are hungry to play
We'd like to introduce tonight
The new heavy steamrock style
Quite different and strange
Alright, how do you feel tonight
Get up to see and cry
The name of the band (Steamrock band, steamrock band)
Steam right with hands and feet tonight
Get up to see and cry and they will begin -
Here they are!
Steamrock fever
Screaming rock believers
Steamrock fever in L.A.
Wow! A wicked Scorpions' fan. Don't disagree but not for this flick. It's too pussy for the 'pions!
I am trying to pretend I do not know the log line and that I am just me, a regular movie goer who like to go to movies with my husband, and I think I'm leaning to Stokers' Furnace. ...here's why....
--- "For the love of Pete" has 3 strikes against it. First, this title is an old-fashioned line my mother would have said in a crazy spilled-milk type situation - if she were alive, she'd by 85. Second, it sounds like a movie about a dog (Petey the dog- like from little rascals...okay, I'm old too ;-). And Third, because the word "Love" is in the title, I probably wouldn't be able to get my husband to go see the movie, and he would think it's a movie about the love of a dog.
--- My Beautiful RockStar. strikes against...First, Sounds like the name of other movies like "My Beautiful Laundrette" or "Life is Beautiful" or A Beautiful Mind or A Beautiful Life. Second, it's not going to grab my husband- he'll think it sounds cheesy (I don't know why...just a feeling)
So, that leaves Stokers' Furnace. I like it because it doesn't tell you the story. You've got to read the synopsis or a review or the tag line. And while it's the name of the bar, it also is a bit of a metaphor for the characters...a burning desire to be a rock star, or to tell the boy he loves him.
Thanks @brian-rhodes!
Oh Wow! Great analysis! Now let me share this with you because you are going down an interesting path with 'Stoker's Furnace'. We selected it as a contender based on the the analogy a furnace gives warmth and life but the fire can burn/kill you as well! See! You think like a writer! Good on you!
This was a fun excercise!
Can't wait to find out what the final title pick will be
How about Jones , you gotta keep it enigmatic and catchy :0)
A little too enigmatic I think. :)
Hehe, fair enough :O)
careful though, it will play on your mind... ;O)
or
'The Classified Father' I don't get unless you mean classified like in 'dead-beat dad'... then maybe. 'Descendant of a Stranger' doesn't feel right since the Dad is there for the birth. He actually holds his son but he leaves to follow his career, or is that really the reason why? (he's a closet gay). Lastly, 'Clandestine Seed' doesn't work for me since it implies something illicit and here it was just a life's mistake. Thank you though. I appreciate the effort.
Top Secret= Secretive = Classified
Thank you for your imput.
"When One Door Opens"
or
"For the Love of Music"
I'm not sure about 'When one Door Opens'. It's more when one door slams shut - when he's told he's dying. And after that it's the does he has to fight to fight to open if he's going to make things right. "For the Love of Music' is too generic. Sorry.
Agreed. With one door opens, I was looking at it more from the son's point of view. He is getting this opportunity to become a rock star (and get to know his dad) and when he finally realizes its his dad, he is going to lose him.
Now that makes more sense. Thanks.
Seems clear none of the titles got much resonance with the public here. I'd also go for 5 - Befriended by the past
You're right. However, 'befriended' is a word that would not characterize his past in this case. He's more haunted by his past.
"For Pete's Sake!"
Just kidding, I vote "Stokers' Furnace".
Ha ha! We did consider 'For Pete's Sake' but concluded it was too generic and not connected to the story enough. Take care!
"Blown"
It has a ring to it. When we blow a big chance in life a lot of us never recover and this guy certainly blew a big one. But, I think 'Blown' is open to interpretations that are might not be consistent with the film.
ooo, yes. that is fab. the two sides. spooky. great!

"Stokers Furnace" wins by a mile. It's intriguing, catchy, memorable, long after release. As the pub and the enabler of dreams fulfilled, it becomes one of the main characters in the film.
Good analysis. The reason we put it in the hat is it's two sided as well. The furnace supplies warmth and life but the fire can burn and kill. It's a powerful couple of words. Thanks
"For the love of Pete."
For Pete's Sake
