Helping others, but what about yourself?

in #self5 years ago

Helping others can work against you sometimes - You have to find those that appreciate your worth

In no particular order -- -1-ish: It's your time -2-ish: Don't waste it -3-ish:
Value yourself -4-ish: A hard lesson learned -5-ish: You Count

Have you ever gave your time and energy to helping people.
It could be because you just wanted to, it might make you
feel better about yourself, or simply because it's all you are good at.
Or the only thing you really have to give.

For instance, It appears I have all the time in the world
(from an outsiders view). But really we all have, in a way
the same amount of time to live, except of course if a tragedy
happens etc...

So I've spent years of my life, helping others. Others, who ask for it
by the way. I end up providing my time and energy to the things
they need in their life. I uplift people by being there in dire
circumstances. Sometimes, something as simple as a full-days move
from one place to another, (tad of sarcasm there)...

More circumstances - Watch the dog, watch the child, get the important
mail that needs to be signed when it arrives or their world will end...
To, simply... just sit by my side.

I digress... But why is it so easy( I must ask ) for people to ask of your
time, day in and day out. An unreplaceable resource (your time), as I am
starting to view it now. But never provide any compensation whatsoever.

Some people spend allday making money. I get it, it's tough you earned it.
So lets say you spend allday working for your pay but the company decides,
nah, it's okay, we dont feel like sending out paychecks this week. Wouldn't
you rage and fight for fairness. Did they not take your time?

Yet I know people, with money, who make plenty. Whom I've been the only one available to pretty much save their day. So I provide my time (energy), which can't be replaced, by the way. Because they have no one else apparently...

I'm sure you can guess there have been plenty of times I've not been compensated with money (energy) in any way, shape or form. And if you attempt, sometimes to ask for scraps. Some people will try to make you feel as if you are the one in the wrong.

Incredible huh... You keep to yourself, you dont bother others. You provide the only thing you have (time) when they harrass you for it. They take advantage of your helpfulness, decide you are less because of your brokeness. And then further decide you have no monetary value.

No more will I provide my precious (time), because that's what it is, (precious). You only have so much of it. It's worth more than money and some don't value it from you.

Are hard lesson learned... But now I know to trust my gut instinct and I know my value.

Do help others. Just make sure it's the right ones you do for, the ones who see your worth. And If you unknowingly help the wrong ones. Just know they have to live with themselves. I'll sleep just fine, roof or no roof under my head. Counting sheep, Counting (adding up) my real worth.

To those who feel like I do, you count also. Don't let your value decrease because of others inability to see it. Your time matters. And there's only so much.
