OUR SEXUALITY: LIKE OUR SHADOWS IN THE DARK

in #sexuality7 years ago

Sex refers to the biological features that spells out humans as either female or male, this is often used to mean sexual behaviours or activities. For more explicit knowledge I have chosen to use the word Sexuality for better understanding and lesser ambiguity.

I recall vividly a couple of years ago in my high school, after I had changed school from Holy Family College - an all boys school, to Science College, a mixed sex school; that was the beginning of my consciousness about my sexuality and the opposite sex, during our reproduction classes, everyone seemed excited about the topic of copulation, sex and reproduction. This wasn't a mere juvenile sex crave, it was our most early response to the exciting, inseparable fantasy of sex.

Quite sadly, the society today treats the issue of sex as a taboo, parents do not dare talk about it, they avoid it like a plague, religious institutions dare not try such, That would be a sin! Our society sees sexuality as a part of our existence that we must never associated with, but truth is this; running away from our sexuality is like running away from our shadow because it is intrinsically intertwined into us.

There are millions of people out there who have been so wrongly indoctrinated about sexuality. The mother (especially African) while trying to groom her girl child, avoids like an Egyptian disease the issue on sex, they only chide the children into exploring more in the world of sex at any slight opportunity they have in future, this lack of education creates anxiety to explore, practicalise all their mothers never told them at home.

As much as sexuality is an inseparable part of man, its purpose must be however well defined to avoid abuse . A lot of people who have abused their sexuality and have abused that of others, are the reasons many people have seen the issue of sexuality as a taboo.

Truth remains, young people across the world have walked themselves into sex slavery, bondage and addictions that has cost them so much already. The society needs reorientation in sex education, it's usually sad that you see people who grow into adulthood, not having answers to basic concerns about their sexuality. The issue of sexuality isn't one sided, the male child who lacked basic education on his sexuality, grows up to see every girl around as a sex thing. When a new girl appears, all he sees is her pant colours and braziers no matter how heavily dressed the girl may be, such a man grows up-to be abusive, sometimes a rapist, putting every female he meets in sexual bondage and slavery.

This is great. .i personally never got to learn about Sex in ma life, i had to readup on sometings to be educated...beautiful

Tank you dr

Seriously we need re-orientation on this matter

Sex education is very important but african parents dont like to talk about it most of here can testify

You are right dr

Sex education should be encouraged. The manner in which people frown at it is unbecoming. Despite all efforts by parents to abstain from sex talks, the children still grow to become either sex slaves or addicts.

God bless for tiz

You're right, knowledge is power!

Sex education is of utmost importance, and I won't deny my kids this knowledge.

“but truth is this; running away from our sexuality is like running away from our shadow because it is intrinsically intertwined into us.“

Yes! This is so true. No running. No hiding. But embracing the wholeness of who we are will heal us. And that includes our sexuality. Great post, brother.
