I only received one round in the mail today. I ordered three more silver grams (2 bars and 1 coin) and received this copper coin in the mail. I purchased it from eBay, and am happy with how shiny and cool it looks. I have a growing number of copper rounds, and this one looks good:
Gold is up $20 today as the stock market continues it's volatile ride. Silver has barely budged, and is at $31.31 after a slight decline last week. News about global conflict and regime change in the White House seems to be driving the market. My yield shares are doing ok, and the dividends are being used to purchase silver and copper coins and rounds.
Copper rounds typically sell between $1.75-$2 and you can find second run coins that are damaged or have quality issues that give you a discount. I love silver, but have been slowly adding some copper to my collection. I have been eyeing junk silver and 925 sterling silver chains to add to my stack, as I enjoy the diversity. I ended up buying some high-dividend stocks that pay monthly, and I will be using their yield to purchase silver coins and rounds.
The issue with copper rounds is that copper currently sells for $4.2 per pound, so one ounce of copper often sells for 1/2 pound when the premium is taken into account. Scrap copper from tubing and wires is your best bet here, and you can buy your own crucible online to pour the molten copper into ingots. You can find copper tubes and wire as scrap and you can help purchase copper tubing on discount in bulk to melt.
What tdo you think about collecting copper? Do you collect scrap wire and tubes? Have you salvaged copper from used electronics?
