Seven seasons of vintage have ended and WOW. What a show.
A miracle happened in this stark grey parking garage in Uptown Chicago. with dirt, grease, dust, spiders and god knows what else was lurking.
7 seasons of vintage in a parking garage! Furniture, vintage jewelry, mid century modern, vinyl, mantiques, vintage clothing and everything under the sun that's vintage and collectible. Whether it's to wear, use or decorate with.
The logistics of having a market in a parking garage are probably something you haven’t thought about.
We had to create floor plan using garage site maps. Figure out how to space them so they could have specific spaces plotted out AND be able to insert themselves like puzzle pieces into a grid quickly. Then you much fill up your piece of the puzzle with vintage goods in 3 hours or less.
Filling it seems doable in 3 hours. Making it into a functioning working shop every month? Incredible. How, in 3 hours does this city parking garage turn into a buzzing living entity with personality?
The Vendors.
Camaraderie is something I’ve never seen happen at a antiques or vintage show before. We couldn’t have done it without the support of each other. Without every single one of our styles and personalities, it could have never clicked.
The Garage was and still is part of the 5050 N. Broadway structure across the street. Ironically the refurbed building will become "The Draper". A FlatsChicago building with midcentury modern flair and the Garage will get an overhaul to go with it.
I know there are plans for retail on the first floor of 5050 and with it comes parking needs probably more than vintage market needs. But with a building like The Draper it’s hard to know!
Our Garage may be gone but check out the website for pop up show for 2019. For 2018 we've got Vintage Garage Holiday Market on December 1 at St. Andrews in Edgewater. It's an amazing place with great people and food AND a parking lot! See you soon!
