My husband Jim knows an awful lot about Spiderman. The comic books that is. The stories were important to him and still are. It shaped him as a person and created our business! He was the collector out of the two of us.
As a kid, the first book he ever bought with his own money was Spiderman 20. You can still see where he thumbed through it hundreds of times. Reading the stories over and over.
On his 8th birthday, he'd saved his money and was going to "THE PLACE". This magic place he'd heard about from his buddies where all the back issues of the Amazing Spiderman issues were sold.
He had an Amazing Spiderman 20 as his first book. Watch to find out what books he picked and why.
It was apparent that even the store owner was on to the growing value of back issues. How far will that $20 get him?
A $20 bill , great negotiation skills and the next thing you know- he's walking out with a bag of the best Spiderman comics ever written.
If you asked him today? He could rattle off Spiderman comics in order from Amazing Spider-man 1 to the 70's or 80's.
The spider man comic book value of today? The bought then would be worth a fortune. He still has a few of the originals but in very well read shape that started when he was an 8 year old boy.
Enjoy, I did this with him about 2 years ago, I can't believe I waited this long to share it. If you are passionate about comics. You'll understand him in a minute.
Next up Jim talks about his love hate relationship with Stan Lee and the moment he realized Spiderman was DIFFERENT.
These videos were done well before Stan Lee passed away.
RIP Stan Lee 1922-2018
