Information and communication technologies play an important role in creating the social well-being. Together with the ever-increasing number of the online population, billions of people still have no access to the global web. The economic context of the offline population raises significant barriers to the Internet adoption. In this light, the issue on affordability of the Internet should be addressed by network operators and service providers.
In many parts of the world, Internet is only available using mobile devices. Shared Internet Data (SID) is committed to finding a path to connect everyone on a global scale and believes in collaboration as a means for development. SID is a project that calls for Internet sharing and at the same time is enabled through the collaboration between its stakeholders with an interest in digital connectivity.
Improving the availability of the Internet
Availability of the Internet largely depends on the infrastructure that enables the access to the world-wide net. Mobile network connection is by far the most commonly used method. It is therefore not surprising that the increasing mobile Internet adoption has fueled the decentralized SID system.
The full functionality of the system is enabled with the SID application. Following the crowdsourcing approach to providing access to the Internet, SID proposes to include digital connectivity into a token economic model and allow for peer-to-peer megabyte trading.
Users who are willing to trade some online access performance, will be able to share their Internet data with their nearest neighbours. For this, SID elaborated a set of development kits, which contains Auto Wi-Fi, SID Chat as well as SDK for third parties. Auto Wi-Fi has already been successfully integrated with Dunkin Coffee, a franchise for Dunkin Donut's in Spain. That is, app users can gain and share Internet connection with users who have installed the same app.
Internet sharing architecture
Security and data encryption are among the priorities of the project. That is, all passwords will be stored in an encrypted manner. Additionally, without having a direct Internet access, users with the SID app on their devices will be able to send encrypted messages and interact over a secure channel.
As a part of the technical scope, SID will provide MiFi to access the Internet. In line with the regularities in some countries, where the use of the VPN-Connection is illegal, SID will refrain from using the VPN cloud servers. To ensure a sufficient level of security and encrypted network communications, the system will operate with the TLS protocol.

Considering the increasing number of blockchain projects in the field of Internet connectivity, interest in deployment of such facilities seems to be developing rapidly. With regard to interests and objectives of SID, the project can be related to a group of incentives aimed at improving Internet access with its innovative technology. Wireless automation plays an important role in deployment of such facilities. Unlike other projects, SID system doesn't rely on mesh technology. That is, the underlying principle that enables interaction between two users, is the SID SDK availability on both devices. This approach is twofold: First, it will cut power consumption, and second, it will allow for Internet sharing among users with the installed SID system.
Recent evidence suggests, that food service facilities that provide its guests with Wi-Fi for free, are more attractive for customers. SID has already established partnerships with Dunkin Coffee and Andalucia Open Future and successfully tested the technology under the sign of Frinwo.
