Shary's Writing Prompt Contest #1

I love participating in contests especially those related to writing anything. I haven't participated in a lot of them here, but I have been in on a few and even becoming a part of a contest is a great feeling for me. I have been meaning to start my own contest for sometime but somehow I kept falling short of fulfilling this goal. Last night while trying to sleep, I decided that I won't delay it any further and tomorrow, I will start the contest I have been meaning to for some time so here I am with it.

The Contest

The contest is quite simple. You have to write a story, essay or anything that you can think of ranging between 500 to 1000 words. It must have the following prompt used anywhere within the written piece and it must also follow the theme for the week. Here is the prompt and the theme for this week's contest:

Prompt: Every night in my dreams... (You can use it in the start, middle or end of a sentence.)

Theme: Thriller and Suspense

Since I plan to make this contest a weekly thing, I will be using the funny, romantic and other themes hopefully in the contests to come in the future. I do hope this one is received well by the community here so I can carry on with it.

Rules

There are a few rules that you need to follow to be eligible for participating in the contest:

  • The story/ written piece must be within 500 to 1000 words and must have the prompt used in it, and it must also comply with the given theme.

-The written piece must be your own creation. I will check all the articles for plagiarism and any sort of plagiarism if found will be reported to @steemcleaners.

-There is no compulsion for you to upvote this post. If you do upvote it, I'll be happy but even if you don't upvote it, it is perfectly fine. :) See I am still smiling.

-Do resteem this post so it gains more visibility and helps more people join on this challenge.

-Title the post 'Shary's Writing Prompt Contest #1' followed by whatever title you wish to give to your story.

-Make a post on the story and submit its link in the comments below.

-Make sure to post it by 1 next Friday i.e. 23rd February, 2019.

I will start the judging on Saturday and post results on the same day or a day later if I receive a lot of entries.

The Prize

The winner of the contest will win a prize of 5SBDs from me and 2 to 3 honorable mentions will receive 1SBD each. If this post does well and makes over $30, I'll add more SBD to the prize pool.

So guys, get started with it, get your creative juices flowing and produce some exciting stories. And oh yeah, one entry per person is allowed. :) I wish you all GOOD LUCK!!

Love and light,

Sharoon.

shary's Prompt writing contest #!

we were all born into a family with low life. Truely the say poverty is the inablity to spend 3$ on a meal a day, But I guess when are speaking about my root its not because a dollar a day then was just by God's grace. But the fact remains we hadly fought with fate for creating us into such a background. I always feel inferior in the public because of the caliber of people I get to meet on daily basis but still I purposed in my heart i wont look down on myself. I as a man decided to do menial job to make life an easy place. Guess i Forgot to tell you. Dad died even before I was nine years old. He left my mom with five children without help from nobody. Every night in my dream , i keep on dreaming of a future where I can afford my children, the education, chocolates and healthy life I never had access to . I didnt quit on my menial job but when I reached the Senior Secondary School, Things changed. How? I have to trek like 8Kilometers from home to school everyday. Most times when I returned back from school I am too weak to do anything but on weekends am always at my work. God is an awesome God ! He surely was watching go through all this maybe to prepare me. That was what I always hold on to. There were several days without food but still didnot quit. It seems to be the end of the Road when Mom couldnt Afford to pay school fees anymore. Alas! i cried and wept bitterly not because she couldnt afford the fees but because i know it will all be become history one day.
As God will have it, He raised up a teacher who knew about me and my family and because of My litle academic brilliancy, we've been good friends . He decided to seek for a schorlarship on my behalf from the school authority from the school Authorities which mom consented after much plea and because she knew its the only opportunity. That night, I wept bitterly but still once again dreamt of the future. Am always encouraged to strife on and am always motivated anytime i had the dreams. The following day as expected, My mom and I together with my teacher proceeded to the school propreitor office as planned. It took us a great deal of work to convince them as the excuses too were reasonable. At least for the fact that they stated to us they school management had a lot to cater for at that moment which my teacher also testified to. But at the end, the conclusion was good. The school sliced m school fees down by 50% and i was happy again. Thou, the remain 50% wasnt too easy to pay But God is ever reliable.

I finished my secondary school and cleared my results after three times of writing the WEST AFRICA EXAMINATION COUNCIL exams.

I was helping a Student to dispose dirts a day when I saw a textbook in the dirts. I picked it up and returned it back to Him. To my suprise , He told me he has no use of it again that i could make do with it. I started to go home after he paid me for the work I did for him. Being a student, seeing some computers on the textbook made me knew the textbook content must be about computer but there were strange writings on it I couldnt Understand at the same time. With curiosity I got home and started reading. Alas! It was a book written for begginer in blogging and How to start writing Html codes. I read it and returned to him to ask few questions. When I got to him , he was amazed and stunned with the questions i was asking him. I never knew that is the light in my tunnel.

After some days , he started giving me free tutorials on Html coding and how to write them perfectly. Everything was going on smoothly but inability of access to phone or a personal computer brought a setback.

to cut the stories short and save the stress of reading, Few months later , i had the access to phone and started blogging and doing HTML codings. some months later i had my own blog . My dedication made way for me as i started making money from blogging after some years. I wrote Jamb three times and this year i got admitted to a university in Nigeria. I quit blogging when my awesome friend introduced me to steemit.

Though , the road is now as smooth as dreamed yet but Now we make more than 3$ a day as family and now i have my self esteem back. Here are some of the blogs i built. www.eruditenewz.cf, www.naijacubez.ml and many more.

and up till now , everynight in my dream ... I still see a better and promising future ahead.

thanks for reading

Do not forget to visit my blog and help upvote

thanks for the impormation of the contest hopefully many of the abil part in this contest may be sekses

Resteemed.

@moneyinfant has added your contest to the list Steemit Writing Contests: Issue #22. The list is updated on a daily basis and your contest will remain on the list until its expiration - there's nothing you need to do.

The list was created to save writers the excessive amount of time spent searching through the #contest tag for writing contests. Now they can just come to the list each day, see new contests and use their time doing what they love - writing.

If you'd like to help spread the word about the Steemit Writing Contest List I'd really appreciate a resteem, but it certainly isn't necessary. The project is simply meant to help writers save time and contest creators attract more contestants.

P.S. If you know of any contests I've missed I'd love to hear about them. Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the help :)

It's my pleasure.

Always and ONLY a pleasure xxx

Hi. Liked, resteemed, followed! I enjoyed writing with these challenges, and I look forward to reading the other writers' stories. Here is my entry: https://steemit.com/fiction/@hope-k/shary-s-writing-prompt-contest-1-the-gathering

Thank you for participating. I'll read your story in the end :)

Thanks!

Interesting idea, but I don't consider 500 to 1,000 words to be a story.

You see a story is a story. Sometimes even 100 words are suffice to tell a story, but some stories can go up to 20k words too so it basically depends on how you perceive the title and how you see writing a story.

Hey @sharoonyasir:) I love the idea and simplicity of your contest here. I am also a member of @newbieresteemday which has turned into a huge community of not just 'newbies'. We have a lot of contests on our feed, so I'm going to come back with that 'hat' on to resteem this. I'm sorry I'm not upvoting right now, but my voting power has his a new low and I'm forcing myself not to use it; it's proven very difficult for me:)

Oh i completely get the not upvoting thingy. I think a lot of us go through that :) Thank you so much for the generous resteem and for stopping by. Means a lot and your comment has more weight in my eyes than an upvote because it shows you care :) <3

We love great contests and are happy to share yours!

Congratulations you have been resteemed as part of #newbieresteemday's top posts for the day! ...

We invite you to use our tag to connect with more of our members. To learn more: Come Join Us!!! (Newbie Resteem Initiative)

Very nice. I like how you plan to be the judge. I wish the contestants all the best.
