Since the dawn of time leadership position have been considered a male responsibility. Women were delegated to the homes as caregivers. But this is currently being abused.
From the onset of civilization humans were hunter gatherers and due to the strenuous nature of this life style men were more active as providers and protectors. In brutal wars and crusades men were the obvious choices, slowly society acclimatized to this obscure view.
With the evolution of the male dominated gerontocracy especially in Nigeria women were unable to directly influence the leadership of the society. They could form guilds and such however their influence was rather small. It was unheard of in some communities for women to sit in on meetings of this gerontocracy and more so to be monarchs.
The history of democracy and politics in ancient Greece also displays a completely male dominated culture. Women in monarchy sometimes only came into power after the death of their kings. So once men could elect their leaders they reverted to a primal and uncivilized gender biased view of society
In efficient formal education practices especially in a country like Nigeria has left a large part of the populace illiterate in the new and broader view of the world. We are still riding in the wake of an advancing gender blind society.
Throughout history women in any level of leadership have been instruments of great change be it positive or negative. In different eras they have caused paradigm shifts: Cleopatra of Eygpt, Queen Daura (can't remember where she's from, look it up), Susan Be-Anthony ( look up the correct spelling) , Harriet Tubman, Queen Allapoutarighabofori of Grand Bonny Kingdom.
Women as natural incubators are genetically designed to nurture and increase whatever responsibilities to which they are assigned. Nature has designed them with a keen sense of purpose and stern resolve.
These attributes of effective leadership are found naturally in them.
Throughout history in times of dire need women have risen up the stem the tide. During the second world war the US were in a state of economic depression as the male work force and resources were sent to battle. Women immediately took up to the industries, taking up traditional male roles. They caused a revolution that has echoed since then.
It's time for women in Nigeria who are already making breakthroughs in economy, science and education to take up leadership of our country
