Showcase Sunday: Urban Exploration In An Abandoned School

This is an urbex post I made at the end of April 2019, I think. I hope I haven't misunderstood the meaning of Showcase Sunday, which I think is for showcasing particularly good old posts of yours. Here goes:

Today I visited an abandoned school. This particular building could no longer be used because many of the pupils and the staff members had suffered from symptoms associated with poor indoor quality. When the building was inspected, it turned out that the roof had leaked for a long time and that there was widespread microbial damage to the structures. Moisture damage often leads to microbial damage. Nutrients for microbes exist everywhere but the key to growth that is missing from indoor environments is water.

Microbial growths can be harmful to indoor air for basically two reasons. The microbes themselves or parts thereof may trigger harmful reactions in humans. The other aspect is chemicals secreted by them. A building is normally quite hostile to microbes because of the lack of water. As a result, when whatever limited room for growth has been used up, different species of microbes begin to compete for living space. One of the chief methods is chemical warfare. Microbes in such situations begin to secrete cellular toxins selected for their efficiency at killing living cells. Multi-cellular organisms, including the occupants of a building, can also be adversely affected by said toxins. Succession often leads to the nastier species to become dominant.

This school building is condemned and marked for demolition some time in the near future. It was found to be beyond repair. Given its age, it should've been extensively repaired anyway. Once the demolition work is finished, a new building will be constructed.

Let's go and see:

All windows have been boarded up. (Nearly all of the anyway.)

Something about this place reminds me of Chernobyl.

Bicycle racks. All vacant now.

Someone has tried to burn this thing, whatever it is.

Even the lamp hasn't been spared.

This was one of the nicer rooms inside.

Whoever caused this mess clearly doesn't want to be

(Let it play while you look at these pictures.)

Let's see what's in the other end of the corridor?

Great pics but what happened here? Riots... or just decay caused by time

The building was boarded up after it was closed but I've heard rumors that drug addicts had broken into it. There was an opening on one side through a window that was already broken. The boards covering the window had been ripped off. If I recall correctly, there was even a pile of boxes conveniently set up to help you climb into the building through the window. The building has already been demolished. It's a good thing I got there because I really love the clock image.

Somehow my mind is stuck with the image of that broken lamp.... don't know why though.

It's interesting how different viewers pay attention to different things.

Great photos.

On other side why they will leave the olace just like that .... could be put in a better use.

The building was to be demolished. It was dangerous to the health of its occupants.
