Raise the signpost
A signpost is a post bearing a sign that gives direction, information or guidance to travelers. It is especially positioned at a point where two or more roads meet to give information and directions about routes and distances so that traveler will have little or no difficulty in their journey.
As a parent, you must raise the signpost that will model your children’s character in holiness, righteousness and godliness. I mean you must bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Today’s children are faced with the challenges of coping with an ever broadening spectrum of influences on decision making and behavior.
Many of these influences have potential negative effects on their growth and development. For instance, social environment has been associated with participation in unhealthy practices such as alcoholism, smoking, drug addiction, indiscriminate sex, fraud etc.
All over the world, the number of kids with behavioural problems has doubled over the past three decades. In fact, those with emotional difficulties have increased by over 70%. A UK researcher and a literacy consultant sue palmer, said sometimes ago that children are becoming more difficult to teach and they find it more difficult to pay attention in class.
This means they are becoming more distractible, impulsive and self centered, and their listening ability are getting worse. To prevent our children from being contaminated by this perverse and wicked generation, we must strive to influence their behaviour at every stage of their development.
The bible has a lot to say about the way we can successfully raise our children to become great men and women in life. The first thing is to lead them to Jesus Christ early in life. Explain to them, in a simple way, the amazing plan of God for salvation. Let them admit that they need to be forgiven of their sins and make them confess their sins to God.
At all times, we must teach and instruct them with God’s word. However, we must also show good examples for our children to follow. Children tend to incorporate and replicate whatever their parents do.
Finally, we must apply the rod of discipline and correction when dealing with our children. Consistent loving correction helps to learn the biblical truths like self-discipline, honesty and obedience. Raise the signpost today and escape the impending wrath of God on irresponsible parents.
