The Classic Commemorative half dollars were produced from 1892-1954. These commemorative half dollars celebrated important events in American history. Private organizations commissioned the US Mint to produce these half dollars to raise funds for projects such as constructing monuments. During the 1980s, there's a hot market for the commemorative half dollars. However the prices for these half dollars dropped during the 1990s. Nowadays the commemorative half dollars can be bought for a fraction of the price they were selling for decades ago.
