Silver Coin Basics - where to start ?

If you have made the decision to invest or collect in silver coins you will find there are many options out there.

You will hear words like private mint, government mint, numismatic, semi-numismatic, spot price, premium etc.

This post will suggest 4 basic bullion coins from around the world to get you started.

These coins offer little collector value but are regarded by many as staples to get into the game of stacking as they are the most recognisable coins around the world; which in theory should be easier to sell should you need to at some stage.

1) American Silver Eagle

-Great option if you hate seeing the queen on your coins.

2) Canadian Maple Leaf

-Most recognised coin traded in markets outside of the US, e.g HK, Commonwealth Pacific, SE Asian markets.

3) Royal Mint (UK) Brittania

-Best option regarding VAT if you are a UK resident

4) Perth Mint (Australia) Kangaroo

- A more interesting coin option than the 3 above that acts as a great gift or souvenir to get one introduced to silver.

Once again, these 4 coins are great beginner coins or provide a base before you explore the world of numismatics and bars, as they are the most recognisable and traded coins on the market.

Though it is encouraged to go to a local coin store to learn, there are many reputable online stores.

US - Apmex, Provident, JM Bullion,

EU/UK - Silvertogo

AUS/Oceanic PAC - goldstackers
