Purchased with Bitcoin, I received a half bag of "junk" silver today. It came with some things you rarely see in these bags...
Half of the order was dimes, mostly Roosevelts that you typically see in these bags:
But then I got a nice surprise when I started seeing a lot of Mercury dimes, 192 that I've pulled out so far:
Then things got really exciting when I started finding barber dimes! 6 in total:
The other half of the order consisted of quarters. Mostly Washingtons like you'd expect:
I found 68 standing liberties:
And finally, 2 barber quarters, one dating back to 1892:

Hey Great post, Im also a gold and silver collector with alot of junk coins (mostly 80% canadian ones as im in canada and work at a bank). Im curious if you dont mind sharing the price you paid for the silver. Or even just the premium/discount to spot it worked out to. Thanks!
$1.45 over spot, which is a low premium for these coins. At times of high demand, I've seen them sell for huge premiums.
absolutely, I know all about it. Thats a great price
Is there a large price difference for silver in Canada? Followed.
Really cool! So are some of these worth some real cash or is it more because you just like to collect them?
I bought them for the silver bullion aspect. But, since I got quite a few older ones, some of those might be worth more. I need to go through them checking the dates to see if any are rare.
Wow! That's really cool... I did not know you would get coin in junk silver... I always thought it would be all jewelry findings and bits and old silver forks and spoons and no solid guarantee whether it's 830, 925 or pure silver. Good for you! (And yes, I'm a bit of a closet coin collector... although I've sold most of my collection).
In the US junk silver is always 90% silver coins from the US mint (dated 1964 or before).
So what is the process of investing in silver? I've been attempting to get into it for so long but never had the time to do the research.
I wanted to pay with Bitcoin, so I used a company that accepts it, https://schiffgold.com/. They had good prices on this so-called "junk silver," which are US coins minted 1964 or before.
Did that answer your question?
Yes thank you! And you're confident in the authenticity?
Anything you buy from this company is going to be authentic. If you're concerned about getting fake silver, you can't go wrong with junk silver because it's probably the most recognizable and trusted form of silver on the market.
How much did you pay per Oz?
$1.45 over spot per oz of silver content
Thanks man for everything.
JMBullion.com and ProvidentMetals.com also have the option to pay with bitcoin. I've never used schiffgold.com before, so I will have to check them out.
Hey thanks for giving out the website. I will order soon. I don't typically buy junk coins because I know the bigger dealers will go thru them and take out all the goodies, leaving me with a predictable batch. If this company is including the goodies, I'm all for it.
Nice coins.
Thanks!
Good lot of coins.
I recently ran across a 1927 Peace Dollar in the AU range in a junk lot a few weeks back. I separated it plus a few other coins I found in the lot and took them to the coin shop and sold them for numismatic value. Ended up getting $75.00 for the Peace Dollar alone and over $120.00 total that I used to buy more silver bullion.
That's awesome! Hopefully, I'm able to do that with some of these coins.
$1.45 over spot is a steal!! Not too long ago they were trading at insane premiums...
Yeah, I suspect it won't be too long before we see crazy premiums again. I could have purchased it for as low as $1.40 over spot if buying a full bag ($1000 face value).
The thing about junk silver that is awesome is that limited supply! And there are many strong hands in silver especially with the junk silver. What were they buying it back at?
I didn't bother to check because I don't plan on selling anytime soon.
Fair enough! Provident is currently buying back at $.20 under spot, which isn't bad at all.
Do you think pure 100oz (Canadian Mint) at spot is better than junk slightly above?
If it's the first silver you're buying, I'd say yes because you probably want as many ounces as possible. However, I already have 100 oz bars, 10oz bars, and 1 ounce rounds/eagles. I wanted more junk silver in my vault.
@sevinwilson check out sdbullion there buy back is usually the highest I have seen. Followed.
I like the guys at sdbullion! Followed you back!
I'm really excited and happy for you! I've been buying silver with Bitcoin myself! Crypto well spent! 👍👍 followed! Check my silver posts if you get a chance! Would love to hear your thoughts! :) ~Hratch
Took a look at a couple of your silver posts. Followed.
Thank you brother! Much appreciated! Glad we are connected!
Very nice pick ups. I bet you where pleased to find the Barbers. I have had a few good finds. Most of mine came from coin roll hunting. Followed.
I was quite surprised to find them. What good stuff have you found?
I use to be a store manager at a grocery store a few years back. We had a machine called coinstar. A young girl happened to be using and and got it jammed. I went over to fix it and get it unjammed and she had 3 morgans she was trying to run through it. Of course the machine would not take it. So I gave her 3 dollar bills for them and she was happy.
If you are wondering about the the 2 small pourd peices, thats proof that its me.
Nice score! It reminds me of that saying, a fool and their money are soon parted.
@shenanigator whoo buddy thats the jackpot !! great post RS &UP
Hey @shenanigator! That is awesome. It gets my heart racing thinking about finding some cool treasure in a bag of "junk" silver. Thanks for sharing and keep up the happy treasure hunting!
Very very cool additions! Lots of smoke in the silver derivatives may be happening this weekend. I penned this relating to the subject.

Great post! I really like the idea of cashing out some crypto for a hard asset like silver. You have scored some nice coins there.
Thanks. Crypto is feeling a little bubbly to me right now, so I think it's a good move at the moment.
I think so too. Cryptos have run up too far, too fast. Due for a pullback, I think.
I've seen you do very good post congratulations, follow me and help me please
Nice haul man
