Today I pulled out my "Illuminati" acrylic to feature another coin. This time, it's a shiny 1943 steel penny. It looks like silver at first glance, but it's definitely steel. Copper was being used for shell casings during WW2 and STEEL production was ramping up, so rather than using copper, they used steel.
It's really shocking to see a silvery penny among normal pennies, especially when they're in such good condition. I tried to capture the SILVER color, but my camera gave it this golden tone. I tried adjusting the colors to better match reality.
I'm fond of this design coin. Older pennies had a deeper press especially the obverse with Lincoln. New pennies are flat by comparison.
The detail shows up much better in the un-edited version. But also has a golden color.
It's a joy to share this shiny shiny with the #SSG and #HIVE community!

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin
We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.
No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13
Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny
Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.
Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books.
I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

A fascinating piece of history.
Your effort to capture its true color sounds like a fun challenge, sometimes cameras just don't do justice to the real thing.
Thanks for sharing this, it's always cool to learn about these little glimpses into the past.

I do recall having a few of these steel US pennies but not very shiny. I have a dual setting light LED 6W bulbs that can be set on either warn or cool settings, the warm tends to produce a golden hue, I'd try the cool setting for a more neutral lighting.
Steel is a very interesting material to use for a coin. Does the coin bend xD ?

Nice penny! That reminds me, we found and saved a large handfull of wheat pennies once. I have to find them again tho... they are stored away in our house somewhere but where is the question!
I wanted our boy to learn the value of selling things for a profit, things that otherwise would be passed around as a penny in this case. I wanted him to learn to observe the world around us and not only see oportunities when they pass by but to also catch them!
Thanmks for the inspiration to do so again!
