The image on the coin can be interpreted in several ways. The one least favourable to Britain: The slightly out of focus lion in the background signifies the passing, fading past and the eagle in the foreground is the future. I don't think I'll buy that coin.

You are overthinking it. The lion is next to the eagle it’s not in the background at all

True. To me the lion is more stylized than real looking, like a statue. It's a real eagle chilling on a lion statue. Oh, and the lion has a hand instead of a paw.

That's one of those rare joint rolling lions.. I think they're originally from Humboldt
