The Royal Mint has once again captured history in the palm of your hand, this time with a collection that takes us back over 2.6 million years. Their latest release, part of the Tales of the Earth series in collaboration with the Natural History Museum, brings to life the colossal creatures that once dominated the Ice Age. Featuring the steppe mammoth, woolly rhinoceros, and giant deer, these coins commemorate the megafauna that roamed the frozen plains during a time of glaciers and icy winds.

The first coin in the series introduces the steppe mammoth, an impressive creature also known as Mammuthus trogontherii. Standing at a towering four meters tall and weighing an incredible ten tonnes, this mammoth was one of the largest land mammals of its era. The coin’s intricate design, crafted by renowned paleo-artist Robert Nicholls with guidance from professor Adrian Lister, offers a striking and accurate portrayal of this Ice Age giant.

Following the mammoth, the series will also feature the woolly rhinoceros and the giant deer, two more remarkable species that once thrived in the Ice Age environment. These ancient giants wandered the vast grasslands and glacial regions of Europe, and their stories are now being preserved in the form of these limited-edition 50p coins. Each piece brings a part of the distant past into the present, making them must-haves for collectors and history buffs alike.

On a lighter note, all this talk about ice and climate change makes you wonder—if humans are supposedly responsible for global warming today, and governments keep coming up with new taxes to save the planet, how did we melt all that Ice Age ice? Surely, the glaciers disappeared long before we invented cars and factories! Climate change seems to be as old as the planet itself, but I guess we’ll just have to keep paying up to keep things cool.

The steppe mammoth 50p coin is available now, with prices starting from £12. Whether you're a seasoned coin collector or simply fascinated by the wonders of prehistory, this collection offers a chance to hold a piece of history in your hands. As the release of the woolly rhino and giant deer approaches, make sure to secure your spot in this unique journey back to the Ice Age.

Climate change is an issue that concerns us all but governments only focus on collecting taxes, well, it is their business and it generates excellent profits for them, a business like this cannot end, that is what people do not understand, fossil fuels are NOT going to disappear so easily.
I wish you a happy day.
