Simplicity makes an ordinary person an exceptional being

We have big dreams and ambitious projects, but that does not mean we can not embrace simplicity. However, in a world where people seem to stand up for what they have, rather than what they are, where they often care more about appearances than the essence, it is easy to fall into the trap of pride, vanity, and conceit .

Still, there is no better ornament for our soul but humility. In fact, simplicity is the language of the heart, is a form of direct expression that needs no artifice and allows us to connect with others from our essence , being 100% authentic.

The risks of pride and arrogance

A frog wondered how he could get away from the cold winter weather. Geese suggested he leave with them, but the problem was that the frog knew not to fly.

- Leave it to me said the frog. I have an amazing brain

Then he asked two geese to help him pick up a stronger reed, each geese holding one end. The frog thought to grab the cane from his mouth.

When winter was about to arrive, the geese and frogs began their journey. However, they had not flown much as they passed through a small town and people came  to see the unusual spectacle.

Someone asked: "Who came up with such a brilliant idea?"

The frog was so proud that he exclaimed:

- It's me!

At the precise moment, he opened his mouth and was released from the cane and fell into the void.

Like the frog in the story, pride can lead us to make bad decisions, without thinking about the consequences. In fact, his main weapon is what convinces us that our thinking is correct and that all others are wrong. We believe that only our ideas are bright and sensible, and do not give place to new ways of seeing things and ended fooling themselves.

Our pride and arrogance will make us feel trapped in what we have learned, becoming our own prison. This is confirmed by a study conducted at Cornell University. The psychologists presented to 100 people a list of terms and found that those who qualified as experts in the field, not only were not able to recognize fictitious terms, the researchers had invented to throw them off, but even claimed to know all about these concepts . On the contrary, people who adopted a more humble attitude and not intended to be experts showed skepticism about these "dubious" terms and acknowledged not knowing anything about them. This study shows us that sometimes our ego blinds us and prevents us from taking the opportunities to grow and learn something new.

7 Benefits of humility and simplicity that will make us better people

1. It allows us to have more mental flexibility.  If we adopt a humble attitude, we will become eternal apprentices. This means that we will always be willing to listen to new ideas and change ours. In this way, we grow because we do not stick to our ideas or ways of doing things but we remain open to change. In fact, as we cultivate modesty, we find it easier to learn from mistakes and understand that mistakes are necessary to grow and evolve.

2. It frees us emotionally. So embrace humility and simplicity is often liberating. When we recognize our mistakes and limitations we are not showing our weakness but quite the opposite, we show that we are confident people, who are well known and we are not afraid to acknowledge that we have failed or we need help. Promote humility, withdraw pride.

3. It helps us to appreciate the little things . Pride always wants more, never is satisfied. On the contrary, humility is formed and finds happiness in what you have. Simplicity allows us to look at the small details and find beauty in them, it allows us to feel grateful for those things that decorate our lives and not took things for granted. So embrace humility allows us to be happy right now, it helps us feel grateful and satisfied with what we are and what we have achieved.

4. It allows us to connect with our essence. The simplicity also means getting rid of social masks we normally use in our interpersonal relationships. The magic is that when we get rid of the need to impress, we show ourselves as we are, and that allows us to establish a deeper emotional bond with the people around us. In this way, we can develop more authentic, strong and lasting relationships.

5. We can find serenity. It's funny, but as we embrace humility, leaving us to discuss the need to impose our views or to be right. When not needed our ego prevails, we are open to other points of view and find serenity even when the beliefs and opinions of others are opposite to ours. This new approach to interpersonal relationships gives us great serenity.

6. It helps us to be more empathetic. Only when we let go of pride and arrogance, when we feed our ego, we are able to leave our perspective and really put ourselves in the shoes of others. Therefore, the path to simplicity also helps us to be more understanding and empathetic. That means we can understand a person who can share their concerns and experience their feelings, although we do not agree with their thinking.

7. It makes life easier. When we finally realize that less is more, our world suddenly becomes much easier. We realize that many of the things that we need, really are not necessary to be happy. Then we can focus on what really matters, redirect our efforts towards those things that make us happy and fill us, those things that really give meaning to our lives, rather than remove it . Always remember the words of Ernest Hemingway “There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”
