Indeed a vexing problem that doesn't have a clear solution. Do less social media, do different things with it?
Didn't help that FB and most social media call the people that you have links with "friends".

I think it is important to consciously distinguish between meat-space and cyber-space, and to be aware of how much time you spend in each.

Very good point!
It's also important to meet up with your friends in real life regularly, although I know life gets very busy.
It's too easy to stay focused on only communication.
