Snapchat Releases Sunglasses With Built-In Camera!

Everybody loves Snapchat - the filters are fun to play around with, and it's so easy to share pictures and videos with your friends.
But now, Snapchat has come up with a totally new idea - a physical product!

"Snapchat Spectacles" is what they're called - essentially, they are sunglasses with a built-in camera.

By tapping at the side of the glasses, you start recording a video (up to 10 seconds), that gets sent to your phone automatically, via Bluetooth.
It's then being saved in the "Memories" Section in your Snapchat (it doesn't get uploaded right away!).
As soon as you start recording, a light starts blinking at the side of the glasses - this is a feature that Snapchat built in on purpose, to let everyone in your surroundings know that you are now recording.
This was an issue that the google glasses had: nobody knew when someone was recording them, so this sparked major discussions about privacy.

The videos are being recorded with a 115 degree angle, and are round - so when you watch them on your phone, you can actually turn it and will be able to see more of the recorded scene.
The glasses come with a case that also doubles as a charger and come in one size only, but 3 different color options are available (black, coral, teal)
And for everyone wondering about the filters: these are no virtual reality glasses, they can't make you see things that aren't actually there.
So you won't be seeing people with dog tongues or weirdly shaped faces walking around.
But you can edit filters later on your phone, once you have finished recording the clip.

Now you might be thinking - do I really need that? Can't I just record Snapchat Videos with my phone?

I think that's a question everybody has to answer for themselves.

Since the product has been announced at the end of september, nobody was able to buy them - or even knew where to buy them.
But starting last week, something extraordinary has happened:

Suddenly, bright yellow vending machines started showing up around the country, selling exactly these spectacles!

When the first one randomly appeared in Venice Beach, California, people were immediately queuing up for it.
Since there is only a limited amount of pieces, the glasses were even auctioned for $3000 on eBay - although the regular price is just about $130.
For now, it seems like there is only one of these mysterious machines called "Snapbots", and it will change its location every 24 hours, and appear somewhere else in the US.

Since these mysterious happenings, a lot of companies and social media stars have tried to get hold of a pair - and use it to their advantage.
Right now, the product is still very exclusive, so everyone is trying to get a closer look at them!
Currently there's a big hype around these glasses and there are all over the news, so no wonder a lot of videos where they were used have gone viral.
And for everyone that wasn't able to get their hands on the spectacles: You can try them on virtually on the Snapchat App itself!

Besides the new Snapchat Spectacles, CEO Evan Spiegel has also renamed the company to Snap Inc.
This suggests that the company will focus on other products besides the social media app in the future.

Who knows where the future might take us with new products like these!

Cool.
Not as cool as these

I hope nobody is putting this on to go Reeperbahn.

steemit sunglasses will be cooler than ANY other ones!

that’s so cool! love the colorful designs! I’d love to get one :D

It will be quite a challenge to get them right now!

that was so clever to release them with vending machines like that - they really created a hype around it

it was the perfect marketing strategy

What a brilliant idea. Wish i'd thought of it as the sales will rocket

yes I think so too - it'll be a hit! (it already kind of is)

the whole hunt for the glasses has become like a trend … great marketing, snapchat! (or should I say, Snap Inc)

agreed - they have got much more attention than if they would have sold it regularly online

they sure know how to do marketing! now EVERYONE is after those glasses

exactly, very clever move from them

Way cooler than google glasses!

well, they have less functions but look more normal!

a little bit of duct tape over the light..
anything done in public is not private...so it deserves no expectation of privacy.
if you do something someone can see...expect it to be on Utoob later.

you're right - if you really wanted, you'd always find a way.

sounds like a cool idea, but not worth $130 in my opinion ?

it depends - if you're a person that buys designer sunglasses for above $100 anyway, that's okay (plus if you love snapchat) but the price definitely doesn't justify the features alone

would be more fun if you could see the filters through the glasses!

that's true, maybe they will add that feature to a future version

3,000 on ebay, that's ridiculous hahaha! but I do think they look pretty cool!

I wonder if somebody actually bought them for that price!

I've often thought I'd love to have a camera lens on my eye to capture all the amazing things I see. Getting a little closer to that I see!! Thanks for the post. Intriguing indeed!

that's true, that would be amazing!

Stuff like this is awesome, I hope it doesn't get the kaibosh the way that Google glass got!!

we'll see how this goes, I'm not sure either!
