Week 3》Six Week Health Challenge ▪▪How I De-Stress Myself

in #sixweekhealth7 years ago (edited)

STRESS from my point of view.
I experience different types of stress at different levels and aspect of my day-to-day activities. On a daily basis i happen to go through academic stress, street stress (having to live in a city like mine is just stressful. #Lagos) work stress. .

standing long hours in the theater

But really i don't see these activities as much stress anyways or say i dont let my mind dwell on the fact that i'm stressed. And this will be my first way of how i distress.

Some time ago i used to feel alot of stress which made me always angry and unproductive. And i would blame it on work and studies. After i read a book on "how to manage stress" i found out that i felt the way i did mostly as a result of my state of mind, which was filled with negative emotions & beliefs, which had developed to chronic stress (Accumulation of stress over time without management); fear, grief, depression, unsatisfaction, loss, worry, anxiety, disease can also result to Chronic stress. In other words negative emotions and beliefs is directly proportional to stress (especially emotional stress).

Unmanaged stress has many effects (especially those associated with negative emotions) on the body such as;

  • Skin disorder
  • Back pain
  • Infertility
  • Headaches
  • Homonal imbalances
  • Weight gain
  • Osteoporosis (loss in bone density)
  • Arthritis
.... That is why it is very advisable to deal with stress just as it comes. Don't Procrastinate!

HOW I DE-STRESS
The first thing i do when i feel i'm getting stressed is to relax, stop whatever i'm currently doing, breathe in & out, access the situation to know why i'm feeling the way i feel then use some affirmations like "i'm above stress, its just work", then maybe slow down a bit (if i can)

I usually don't get alot of time during the week to do most activities so i Read books outside my field. Learning something just has a way of making me calm.

checking out a book store

some of my most interesting books

Then i make out some time for my first love | Music.

And hang out with the people i love

My beautiful niece and nephew. They just turn me up

I love taking myself on a treat too

Then as the weekend unfolds i get to burn off some steem.
Walking out

Finally. . .

... my ultimate de-stressor. My space, My bed!

I try to make my room as sacred and comfortable as possible so that i can get to sleep well. Inadequate sleep can cause alot of negative emotions during the day which in turn make you less effective and productive.

Conclusion
My strategy is just to do the things i love, the things that make me happy and hang around happy, optimistic and positive people.
