Why is that graduates who have spent a good 16 years of their life in education aren’t willing to invest a few days in crafting a great resume. No matter how good your grades are, how good your hard and soft skills are, if you can't reflect them in your resume, it will become invisible and ignored. Several studies have shown that the average attention span for a resume is no more than 3-4 seconds.
As of today, every university teaches more than a hundred subjects in a single major yet they do not have a single subject/class/workshop or activity that focuses on the importance of creating a good resume and cover letter, conducting a job search and the effective way to sell yourself in an interview.
If you ever happen to meet the HR people, they would tell you that they hardly receive a great resume that has no grammatical mistakes, has all the required information which is easily readable, and is not stuffed with irrevalent stuff.
Trust me when I say this, your employer is not interested in all the irrelevant internships, volunteer-ships and grades from your schools up to this point. Nobody cares about your spouses' occupation, Age, Sex, Religion, Place of birth etc.
All it takes is a mindset, an in-depth research on Google on what to put and what not to, and the right way to brand yourself in a resume. You can also get it reviewed by a friend of yours for a grammar check if needed.
The job hunters should stop ranting on social media platforms, blaming the Government, industry, academia and what not. Instead, they should work more on personal development and branding. There is a serious gap. Trust me, this would be one of the best investments you would ever make and would increase your chances of conversion to a great extent, I guarantee that.
