Now here’s what I wish someone would’ve told me to expect post first facial smh... 🤦🏽♀️
Number one: BE PREPARED TO HAVE TO PUT YOUR LIFE ON HOLD! Lol okay that’s dramatic but it still has some truth to it. Luckily I did my facial on a weekend so work, and gym were on hold. But I was advised that you really shouldn’t work out or whatever you do that makes you sweat the day of or the day after. This goes for every facial but no one told me until I was about to leave! Your pores have been put through a lot during this process and your skin with is still in (WTF did you just do to me) mode. Also, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, put on makeup. Please. For the love of God. For one you just had the best cleansing of your skin you’ve ever had, why would you want to re-clog your pores right away? Wait a day maybe even 2... or until your face is fully healed!
Number 2, do actually don’t need to wash your face for a while afterwards! Now if you’re like me, I wash my face morning and night religiously. But surprisingly enough you can actually skip your next 2-3 times because all the product on your face will protect you! But when you do finally wash your face please be careful! Like I said you have a lot of medicated face treatments and other products stacked up! Your face is going to feel so slippery and that’s normal! But do not open your eyes lol all the product made my eyes burn like crazy!
Number 3... this is the most important. Be prepared for your face to have some sort of reaction. Mild to severe depending on the kind of facial you’ve received. Naturally you have to get just a basic facial before you can move into chemical peels and more heavy things. But still, because it’s your first time anything is possible. With me, it was like my entire T-zone was sunburnt. I didn’t notice until after I washed my face for the first time afterwards. I was hurt! My face looked crazy! I couldn’t understand but after talking to my friends who had gotten facials regularly, it was normal. This is why “don’t get your first facial days before an important event” is so strongly stressed. Your face is bound to freak out. New products, the newest layer of skin being exposed from professional exfoliation. Literally it’s a lot. “Pore purging” is big too. After you get the dead skin away and everything else your pores are shook. It may bring up breakouts that you probably would have never seen before. But that’s okay!
Number 4 piggy backing off of number 3, DO NOT FEEL PRESSURED TO BUY THE PRODUCTS RECOMMENDED! I was told to buy these products because it was what was used on my skin and right after getting up from the chair my skin looked great! I spent 150$ on these new products and was told how to use them and implement them into my new skincare routine. Now... let me tell you, I think this is what somewhat exaggerated my “sunburn” reaction. I have sensitive skin which I had told my esthetician but she assured me that this is what I needed and it would be okay. It was not. My face was dry, burning, and just terrible. I mean it was so bad I was putting Aquaphor on my face 3 times a day. It was bad. I went back to my old routine, returned the products, and my face eventually healed. I mean who’s to say what actually caused my reaction but, just a word of advice!
Number 5, DRINK WATER! Lots of it! More than you normally do. Lol
Now after my first facial and after my reaction healed up, my skin has been the best it’s ever been. I am amazed at how even now I look back at that experience and that was the turning point for me and my skin! I hope this was somewhat helpful!
Thanks for reading!
