Sleep Paralysis; the Cateleptic state and it's potential regarding Occult nature of Consciousness:
This is a quick post to familiarize anyone new to sleep paralysis.
It can be scary when you encounter it for the first time, it can also still spook you if you've been there 100 times. Understand it's nothing to be afraid of and it's something very natural that your body does when you sleep.
When our brains fall into high theta frequency it sends a paralysis signal down the spine. If it didn't do this then we would act out our dreams and this is why some people somnambulize (sleepwalk).
Many people can and have achieved this and will also validate the following information in parallel from their own experiences.
Let's skip brain frequency cycles and the like, if you are apt enough at achieving a high theta state consciously then you will undoubtedly understand the process intrinsically.
There is a prerequisite state of being to get yourself into, also called the cataleptic state, which is accomplished only in a specific way by Will or a haphazard way by dumb luck. Most people accidently wake up in this state terrified of the passing phenomena associated with it. Other people directly induce this state on purpose to utilize the body asleep/mind awake dynamic. This can not be accomplished by a mind-dominated individual, thus you see the need to establish a specific way of being primarily.
In what Sylvan Muldoon defines as the cateleptic state (Buddhist Jhanas state) there exists almost nothing to our sensory impressions. Most our senses have fallen away and the focus of our one-point concentration may have even disappeared as we become absorbed or embeded in this deep, formless internal expanse. Sometimes in sleep paralysis we are still awake and aware of our surroundings as the 5 senses have not completely fallen away or turned completely off. We then experience the phenomena of vibrations, blood pumping/waving through the vessels, exited arythmia, sights, visions and all sorts of noises, etc...
There's multiple phenomena that occur and at this point we only address here to help familiarize yourself with so it isn't a complete shock when it happens. .
As you relax your brain goes into Alpha frequency state. As the Alpha frequency drops even more you start to drag or feel drugged almost as if you..... might....... be....... talking..... reeeeaaaal...... slooooow........
You are doing good at that point but keep going.
The mind has been stilled and the senses start to withdraw. The thinking, active mind has to have long given up and now allows a more passive part of your psyche to override. You must maintain an active desire to not fall asleep but let the body simply go into a type of stasis mode. All you have to do is let go and stay aware. Your sense of feeling or touch might go first as the body feels very heavy and numb. This is a deeper feeling after the alpha state. You should actually feel tranquilized almost. If you had to move you either couldn't or have to try very hard to.
Your hearing will likely shut off next and you might feel like ambient sounds are far away and unintelligible. At this point you might start hearing things that aren't there, bells, chimes, music, people talking or saying a few words at a time, even rushing wind noises or static sounds.
The visual cortex will begin checking on why there's no sensory input. This might be the hardest to sit through but relax into it you must. You might see flashes of different colors, mostly white (pure color of the Agna Chakra), and also start to see through your closed eyelids on occasion as is reported in some people.
If you are laying down your heart will race or feel like there's a heavy weight on it. It might even beat exceptionally hard or even swirl red or other colors in your visual screen as the heart center activates sometimes. For this reason it is strongly suggested DO NOT LAY DOWN. You are also subconsciously programmed to rest and sleep when you lay down also. You don't want this to happen. Your intention must be on your practice.
That's about the jist of the paralysis. The next instance should be the "vibrational" state and this lasts for a few seconds to allot longer depending on the person. You will feel electric almost, maybe waves flushes over you, even shaking but it's a sign that you are about 99% at the point you can exit your body. HAVE A PLAN at this point. Do not just sit there. You must now move from your passive state into a more active one by intently deploying whatever body-exit technique you decided upon.
Sleep paralysis can feel very strange and scary, but remember it's actually nature's way of protecting you so you don't hurt yourself if you fall into a dream and start acting it out.
This is yet another reason we don't want to get involved with the mind. We want it's influence removed as much as possible. We don't want to fall into a dream if our intention is astral travelling.
SOMETIMES, people do not experience sleep paralysis at all and opt to go into a dream and collect themselves from this place, then decide upon how to exit out of the already paralyzed body. Sylvan Muldoon was among such practitioners for example. If you find that sleep paralysis is too much to handle, try familiarizing yourself with it slowly while also opting to go the wake-from-dreams method.
While some other people will experience some and not all of these things it's okay if your experience is different and always remember nothing is harming you, it is only nature doing what it does when you aren't usually paying attention.
