Wow! The amount and variety of Slothicorns that have been submitted are overwhelming! No one ever knows if a contest will take off or not, but this one has and WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED!
DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 23, 2017
Many people don't understand why I want to build a Creative Commons Cryptoart community, and this is the main reason: I believe we all win when we share. And now that Steem exists, I can help support this Creative Commons cryptoart revolution with my stake.
Let's get real for a second. None of us would be here on Steemit if Bitcoin hadn't been Open Source. We are here precisely because Bitcoin is Open Source software. Creative Commons is a natural twin of Open Source.
When I lived as an artist in California, I gave away a lot of my artwork. I've always been inspired by the Open Source software movements and all collective revolutions, like Anonymous and others.
Yes, that is me as I lived out a fantasy of being the world's first Patron Saint of Postcards. I gave away a lot them to people who were amused by my art.
In Steemit, and across the world, I see creative people working in a vacuum, and struggling financially like I did for most of my adult life. I used to feel that my creativity was a curse, because I would usually spend most of my working days in a daydream, or fantasize about various things. Boredom was my devil, and at every job, I would get bored. My mind always wanted to be free to create wild and unusual ideas that involved creativity, revolution and massive changes in the way society ran.
I used to be one of those struggling artists. I understand that we are in a time of shifting power paradigms, but because artists are not typically interested in money (that was me too), they are not usually the beneficiaries of new wealth. I happened to be blessed with a lot of different skills and interests (I know how to code basic things, I know how to day trade, I love science, I understand psychology and I'm a creative thinker) and so I see the need for some basic foundations on which artists can operate.
I think the future is moving away from a "ME" world into a "WE" world.
(When with that horrible "MONEY TALKS" slogan be replaced by something actually relevant....ugh...)
Thanks Brock Pierce. But I am also a realist. I understand human greed, but I also know how to incentivize artists, since I consider myself an artist first (before entrepreneur). For most of my adult creative life, I was broke, or nearly broke. I didn't understand how to turn creative energy/works/projects into money. It wasn't until Steemit arrived, that I was able to successfully do this. I was a direct beneficiary of the new DAC system. So, now it is time to create a well-functioning creative community that operates under this new paradigm of Creative Commons.
In the future, cryptocurrency will I think be the dominant way to earn money for artists, programmers, writers, visionaries, everyone.
I foresee a new Golden Age of creativity, as robots slowly replace all those boring jobs we all hated. We are going to have to really distinguish our human attributes from the machines, and this will be our superpower. As Naval Ravikant and others have said, any job that can be automated, will be automated. And the CEOs of corporations will be oh so happy not to have to pay anyone's health insurance or salary. This is reality.
So, people will be wondering how they will earn money in the future. DACs like Planet Steem are part of the answer. In a new paradigm where we are sharing more than ever in collectives, in social collectives, our value will be determined by how much value we create for our tribes. We will be forced to re-imagine what it means to be a human.
I would assert that the current state of affairs, with most of us being turned into corporate robots, full of equal parts fear and greed, we are not acting as humans right now, or barely so. Most of us have been reduced to a lower form of human, and I say this not as judgment, but because I used to be one. I operated from fear: Will my boss fire me today? Can I tweet out this message without being fired? Can I speak my mind without getting fired?
Back to Slothicorn.
I created Slothicorn to solve my own problem. There didn't exist a Creative Commons cryptoart revolution anywhere in cyberspace. And when I use the word, 'revolution', I do mean it. I have been doing high jinx style things for my entire life, and breaking rules everywhere I go. One time, a boss thought I was organizing a revolution after I confronted him with some very unsvavory truths, directly to his face. One look through my history and you will find someone who not only despises authority, but who cannot operate under any form of coercion, lies or low integrity. This does not mean I am perfect, but I have noticed that leaders tend to rise up, not because they are the most intelligent, but because they are the most power hungry. I have been hiding in the shadows my entire life, shirking responsibility, and being afraid of becoming a leader. I don't want to die a coward.
I know that Slothicorn is my mission, as I can visualize what needs to change in the world, for one select group of people: creatives, like myself. Steem has given us the tools to make that change into a reality. Let us use what we have at our disposal, and not freak out about things not being perfect.
As long as humans are involved, nothing will ever be perfect.
Our design is flawed because of emotions. The sooner you master your own emotional life and ups and downs, the sooner the world will become a place that is actually livable.
I know I have not been in Discord lately. I always need many days to shitpost on Twitter, learn, and think independently, without having to talk to people. This is an introvert's dilemma.....that's why more people can join Slothicorn, and build out the cryptoart revolution. We are stronger together, and weak when we operate only as individuals. That's why I decided to give birth to Slothicorn.
If you haven't created your Slothicorn yet, you still have until tomorrow. And for you all who have reached the 3 limit entry, please read more. Let's see what our minds can create when they are free to do so, and copyrights have been removed.
Cheers,
Stella
FYI: my SP delegations will be returning to me after the holidays in order to fund Slothicorn.

waww amazing, interesting story, and the photo is very unique, I really like your post and I wait for your next posting
I could see the passion in the words here. Knowledge could lead you to some extent, passion is what leads you the next few steps to success.
I wish you a resounding success in this journey and judging by submissions I've seen so far I'd say you've pulled it off already.
Also, thank you very much for delegating your hard earned SP and thus giving some steemians wings to fly.
I am following this history that is about to be made. Thanks a lot.
thanks for always following my work! I see that your posts are doing so well now, and that makes me happy.
That is not without your support. I'm truly grateful. Thanks a lot.
smart people have suffered enough. It should not be that way.
That is one thing I'm excited about the blockchain, the really smart people now get the dues that they deserved. Unlike what they had to put up with in other places.
smart and visionary people have usually been enslaved by greedy fucks at the top. We have a chance to change that.
My ISP decided to throttle my internet speed today.
Yes, that is how capitalism works, get the best brains and pay them peanuts. Thankfully, the revolution just began and unlike most revolution, this particular one would be televised and even lifestreamed.
God, this is sooo true! This became so very apparent to me this year when I worked on a public art project. Ugh.
this is a great story! and really like the video
Appreciate you leading the charge on developing a CC licence for crypto-art. Hoping it takes off and gets utilized by more than crypto-memes before too long. I know I'll be actively promoting and utilizing it!
that's the best part of this...everyone can use as long as they don't abuse it. Re-posting someone's creative commons art without adding anything of one's own, will not be any of any value, and might even get a flag or two.
Likewise me, i have done a lot of free portrait for people, before i even discover steemit, and i still do that...
i believe everyone that is passionate his/her art to be seen all over the world should support this good course.
How about seeing your art being used for a good course, its gives you great joy.
Great work @stellabelle @slothicorn
#Everysteemianaportrait
I've been a great fan of your's and once again you prove me right with this post. Thank you!
glad to hear it. I am very lucky because i found Steem in early days. I've always seen both its potential and weaknesses....it's time to get people's imagination inspired...
Ok i just discovered this three seconds ago , and i am so inspired and going to make a Slothicorn. Your story resonates with me so much and I only just found Steemit a couple weeks ago. I wish I had learned of it a year ago! I want to follow in your footsteps! I am an organizer, activist, artist.I have made zines for years and years and they have a similar ethic as what you describe. i just quit my therapist job in a school.. there were unethical things, low integrity, children are being harmed.. public schools are so depressing...I have tried to do everything "right" to adult properly and it is eating my soul and killing my creative spirit. Your words about leaders are so spot on. I am ready to bust out, i have a shitton to offer, i am here for the revolution! :)
Your story will definitely motivate people like who are struggling in their lives, at the age when they are still single and their friends have 2, 3 children. I know it sounds funny but this is the reality in this part of the world. Men get married at the age of 25 or 26 and I am 30 and still struggling. Yes, I can and will acheive what I want in my life!
I have benefited from the rest time to do my third participation in the contest.thanks for you support.i like your creative ideas.your ideas export the gifted souls of people to our world
