Of windows and bricks...

When I visited Kathmandu, Nepal in 2014, I noticed they had lots of interesting woodwork on their buildings, especially for the windows and doors. The work was refined and very detailed, often decorating not only the windows and doors, but beautiful window and door frames as well as with 'crowns' above them!

Some of these crowns tend to be very heavy, ornate and elaborately decorated affairs.

This one below I found near the entrance to Boudhanath - the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal and possibly the world!

These sets of windows are positioned just above a souvenir shop, just like any other shophouse, in any other city... except for their design! The woodwork is amazingly intricate!
The other amazing thing - I found almost all windows there to be as decorated as this, in various styles of course!

Many of their buildings there are also of a warm red brick like this...
Which of course totally complemented the rich woodwork!

Very cool architecture, but the masks really caught my attention. We dont see stuff like that around here.

Thank you, Woody! Yeah, the masks do catch one's attention, right?!! I was going to mention about them, then left it out! There is truly so much to see and absorb when you're there. I don't think I even noticed them when I was taking that photograph...
