This unassuming switchback road was the entry point to the beautiful Plain valley. The first settlers came in 1891, and there was nothing but a steep cliff that dropped straight down to the valley below. The stories are told of valuables being let down by a rope to the valley below. The wagon road and the switchback were cut in 1892, and the trip down valley became somewhat less perilous......All they needed to do to get down was tie a large log to the back of there wagon to slow them down!!!!!
The cut between the mountains that are covered with Ponderosa pines is where Chumstick hill is located.
We have it so easy today, we need to remember the struggles our Pioneer forefathers had....
