In the year 2025, you could join the "internet" with a cumulative reputation score of 25.
With Smart Media Tokens (SMTs) STEEM could be a disruptive "window" into a new type of web. One that is comprehensively incentivized through a point system and where content gets rewarded on a global scale.
So, what if, when you visit any website, you could earn points through engagement. Each website might have it's own "point type". If that's the case, you could earn NYT (nytimes) in one place, SPOT (spotify) in another, WIKI (wikipedia), MEDI (medium) also. The backbone behind all of them could be the STEEM blockchain. Your "reputation" score could translate among these various sites... and in essence, the whole web.

Seems to me the potential is huge.
In a sense, this feels like the next generation of what ventures like Klout, and then empire.kred envisioned... except now monetized for the new Attention Economy.
Granted, a small part of me feels pangs of anxiety at the possibility that we'll end up with a bunch of "Korporate Koins" that will try to derail the decentralized nature of what we're doing here. But we can but wait and see... these are exciting times, to be sure!
And the markets really seem to like the announcement.
Really good points @denmarkguy. While big companies will surely tap into this... it feels like the mom and pop shops of the internet have a tremendous amount to gain. Hopefully value will be distributed differently in the years to come.

That's a really interesting idea. Presumably with such a system, whether or not the website was very popular or not wouldn't matter, as each would have their own individual points/reputation system? So if, say, you engaged with a website that was nowhere near as used as Wikipedia, you could still have the potential to earn from your input?
