Sndbox Summer Camp: Writing Quest Task 2
It was Christmas 1952, the end of the year was approaching and Victor and Angela were expecting their sixth child. Angela was very anxious because she didn't know her baby's sex. A few days later she began to feel bad about what they called the midwife to help her deliver her baby, Angela was happy because she had had a baby girl named Gladys.
Gladys was the youngest of 6 siblings (1 male and 5 females). Ada 7 years old, Alirio 6 years old, Alida 4 years old, Carmen 3 years old and Teresa 2 years old) had a very happy childhood with her siblings. They lived in a small town in the Venezuelan Andes, their mother Angela was a housewife and their father Victor was dedicated to running the family business. A few years later, for work reasons, Victor had to move to the west of the country with his family because he did not want to leave Angela alone with the children. He made some trips to find a place to live with his family, visited many houses but could not find the right one as they were very small and his family was large, until he got a house that would be ideal. He imagined his children playing in the yard and his wife taking care of him and the children. It wasn't long before Angela and the kids moved into the new house. A place where they didn't know anyone but their family would be united, little by little they made friends and became familiar with the place. The children enjoyed their new home to the fullest, which Victor was very happy about because everything was as he imagined it.
The children began to go to school and to high school, soon Gladys was finishing her high school studies to begin her university career. Gladys wanted to be a teacher but where they lived there was no nearby university, so she decided to go to study in the city. Gladys received all the support of her parents and siblings to study what she liked. He traveled every day to a city that was an hour away, for years he did his best to get the best grades and graduate in record time.
This city was very big, there were many buildings, super markets, shopping malls, cinemas and many other attractions that caught his attention. There were many things I was not used to seeing in the small town where I lived. She spent 4 years studying and finally graduated with a degree in Education. Her parents and siblings were very proud of her. The pampered girl of the house was no longer a child and had fulfilled her dream of becoming a teacher. And since that was not the end of a dream, Gladys told her parents that she wanted to go and live in the city to work and that she loved it. Her parents were a little reluctant with her because they didn't want her to leave home but happy that she would start a new stage in her life.
Gladys finally moved to the city with some of her classmates (Nancy and Martha) where they would share an apartment. All three were looking for work, spent a few weeks looking for work until Nancy got a job at a school and Gladys and Martha were lucky enough to get a job at a well-known school.
Gladys was very happy and travelled to the village where her parents lived to visit them and give them the good news. Her parents were very happy and proud that their daughter was accomplishing everything she set out to do. Gladys started working at school and was doing very well, but she also travels every weekend to visit her parents.
On one of those trips she met a boy (Enrique) who offered to take her to the small town where she lived, they talked the whole trip and they realized that they had many thing in common. Little by little they became very good friends. And Enrique began to flatter her, which was not too far from reality because Gladys liked it too. They started dating more often where they realized they liked each other more than they thought and decided to get engaged. The following weekend they both went to the village for Gladys' parents to meet him. Gladys was very anxious and nervous because she didn't know what her parents and siblings were going to say. When the big day arrived, Gladys and Enrique traveled to the village where Angela, Victor and Carmen received them. Carmen was very happy because she felt that her little sister was in love. His parents were quite serious but then they talked to Enrique and little by little they realized that he was very sincere and had good intentions with his daughter. Now every weekend Enrique accompanied Gladys to visit his family. Sometimes her siblings also went and took their children with them, it was wonderful to see the children playing as if the years had not passed and they were Ada, Alirio, Alida, Carmen, Teresa and Gladys running around and sharing as always.
A few months later Enrique proposed to Gladys. Enrique was in charge of preparing all the details to make the proposal as beautiful as possible. I book a table at a very romantic restaurant and invite Gladys to dinner. Gladys had no idea what was in store for her that night. When night came, Enrique was very nervous, his voice was choppy, and his voice was shaky, indicating that something was going on. Gladys didn't take long to ask him, are you okay? to which he replied the best I could. His nerves attacked him completely so that everything he had planned is not happening as he expected. So he just decided to relax and make the proposal to Gladys. I look her in the eye and ask her if she would like to spend the rest of her life with him, and Gladys, amazed by the proposal, answers with a resounding Yes! I'd love to be your wife.
Then Gladys and Enrique went to visit their families and tell them the good news. Gladys's parents and brothers were happy about the upcoming marriage. Carmen and Teresa offered to help them plan their marriage, as it would be the most important day of their lives.
To follow the tradition of the family the marriage would take place in the home of the parents of the bride, all wanted to contribute ideas for the celebration. Decoration, invitations, drinks, food, among others. A few weeks later the big day arrived, Gladys was very happy and excited. He started to get ready early in the morning to make sure everything went well. When Gladys was ready, Angela and Victor went to see her. Angela started crying because her little girl was beautiful and would marry the man she loved.
Then the guests began to arrive, who were the closest relatives and friends. Enrique arrived very nervous but happy. Gladys' sisters received him and were joking to make him feel better.
The most emotional moment had arrived and that was when Gladys came out of her father Victor's arm. All the guests applauded as they walked to the altar they had prepared for the ceremony. Enrique was even more nervous but what Victor gave on the altar to Gladys let everything flow to enjoy the moment. Enrique and Gladys looked at each other and smiled, their happy faces majestic. The father proceeded to celebrate the ceremony and asked both of them if they would accept each other as husbands, to which Gladys and Enrique responded with a strong "Yes, I accept! And the newlyweds closed with a big kiss. Then the marriage feast took place, they received many gifts and blessings in abundance for the couple.
Weeks later Gladys and Enrique bought an apartment in the city that would be home to their family, as they both wanted to have children soon. Gladys wanted to get pregnant soon to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother; she liked large families like Enrique so they wanted to have 4 or 5 children.
Gladys had been trying to get pregnant for months and nothing, she was so eager to get pregnant that she couldn't do it. She went to the doctor and he told her not to get stressed to leave everything in God's hands because she was perfectly fine and there was nothing stopping her from getting pregnant but herself. Gladys decided to take things easy and that's when she realized she was pregnant within weeks. Gladys gave Enrique the great news when she got home, they were both very happy and wanted everyone to know. Gladys called her parents, siblings and closest friends to tell them the big news. She was only 5 weeks pregnant and everything was fine.
Gladys spent her pregnancy calmly, went to work without problems, traveled to visit her parents frequently. Little by little her pregnancy was progressing perfectly, she could feel her baby kicking, moving, talking to her and singing a lot.
Gladys and Enrique went to a pregnancy management consultation with their obstetrician, the doctor performed an echo and was able to find out the sex of their baby. The baby they so eagerly awaited would be a girl, they were both very happy. That night they decided to celebrate so they went out to dinner together at a Chinese restaurant that was Gladys' favorite meal.
After 9 months Gladys began to feel bad and knew it was time for her baby to come into the world. Gladys, despite feeling sick, had no signs of giving birth for hours at a time, waiting for labor pains, but she never did. So after 21 hours of waiting it was decided to induce labor, she was given some medications and none worked so the doctors decided to perform a cesarean delivery. They proceeded to admit her to the operating room and in a little while she had her baby in her arms. When he saw her he fell deeply in love with her and called her Carolina (Gladys said that as soon as he saw her he knew it was the right name for her).
Then he came out of surgery and was in recovery for several hours and Carolina was by his side. Gladys was really happy to have her daughter with her. All his relatives went to meet Carolina. Angela and Victor were happy that Gladys had been able to have her long-awaited daughter.
A new stage was beginning for Gladys and Enrique with Carolina. Her longed-for daughter, they wanted to pamper and coo to her all the time. The first few months were quite exhausting, Carolina woke up early in the morning and ate from her mother's breast every three hours. It was a lot of responsibility in such a short time with your daughter. Both of them took advantage of resting while Carolina slept.
Four months later Carolina started to get sick, vomiting a lot every time she was breastfed. They took her to the doctor and everything was apparently fine so the doctor recommended that Gladys have a check-up. Gladys was her doctor and to her great surprise, Gladys was pregnant again. They were all surprised by the news.
Gladys and Enrique formed a great family as they had hoped, they had 3 more daughters (Angela, Maria and Sofia). In them they cultivated the values and principles that their parents instilled in them. The family is the fundamental pillar of every human being. We teach by example, that's the best gift we can give our children.
