We camped out up in the New York Mountains inside the Mojave National Preserve, and were treated to a rare June cloudburst!
The landscape is lush with grasses and late wildflowers, all happy to receive a drink of precious moisture.
A rainbow beckoned us into Caruthers Canyon where our party set up camp.
The pregnant moon gleamed brightly into the starstrewn night.
I put my camera phone away until driving back home again Sunday, when I coaxed @mattlovell to take the Mojave Road from Afton to Yermo. The creamy white sand dunes were festooned with Desert Willows in full bloom.
Ordinarily, I would reconsider touring the desert in mid June, but this year of high rainfall and erratic cool days proved ideal. #MyCalifornia
