21 months ago Leicester city just managed to avoid relegation from the premier league, a change of management saw Claudio Ranieri take charge. It what has been described everywhere as a Miracle Leicester City lifted the premier league...becoming only the 6th team to do so, (Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Blackburn - being the others) however on Thursday Leicester sacked Ranieri, becoming the second manager who was sacked the season after wining the premier league (Take note Conte)
What's different this season?
Well they are currently battling relegation as of the writing of this post, they are in the relegation zone, but have a game in hand against Liverpool on Monday night. They are out of the FA cup, and while they have preformed well above exceptions in the champions league getting into the last 16, and coming away from Sevilla with a (loss) 2-1 score line, they have an all important away goal, but ultimately it was this result that was Ranieri's last result.
So the big question is we're Leicester right to sack him? Well this is going to be a really hard one to answer, in my opinion, change was needed. They can not become the first team in the modern era to be relegated the year after winning the league.
So what is going to be a good result for the rest of the season now for whoever takes over the reigns now... the one thing that is a must is ensuring premier league survival. Anything in champions league 2nd leg will be a bonus...
Where has things gone wrong?
Recruitment...they lost N'Golo Kanté to Chelsea and who they have brought in to replace him hasn't worked out, they have also had to contend with European football this season.
While after Christmas last season, every game felt like a home game as everyone wanted them to win the league this season they have had that champions target on their backs.
Time will tell if they will be playing on the championship or the premier league, but for the last 18 months, it's been one hell of a ride.
Good!
