Serbia qualified for the 2018 World Cup from Europe after winning their group over Republic of Ireland, Wales, and Austria. They will play in Group E with Brazil, Switzerland, and Costa Rica. Chile failed to qualify for the World Cup from South America after losing a tiebreaker to Peru for a playoff spot and finishing in 6th place.
