And still people sympathize with leftist governments... Unbelievable

Completely insane, and the cognitive dissonance from leftists on Venezuela makes you think insanity is contagious!

It's really sad in so many ways. I feel sorry for them, but they depended on a government to feed them. They actually have it written into their law!

It could never happen here, right? Wrong. This is one reason why I recommend people stockpile food.

I have a few acquaintances from Venezuela and they are suffering immensely. I have lived through a war and I know what horrible situations human beings xan create - they are going to have to go through hell, and hopefully they'll emerge on the other side better for it!

I hope they had food stored or have ways to procure it now?

Most are struggling, but an amazing girl I know, her name is Genesis and she s 21 yo, is part of a group that's smuggling food and other supplies from Colombia. Very dangerous, but she's a fighter. Had plenty of chances to leave Venezuela, but choose to stay because of her family.

She told me in our first conversation that conservatives/libertarians were pussies - she was an anarchocapitalist:-)

Awesome! Is she online anywhere to be found and supported?

They used to have a Wordpress blog, 4 or 5 of them, but I think it's defunct now. I sent her a msg to see if she is on FB or Twitter or maybe a blog she'd like to share, so I'll post here any sites she shares with me.

Try to get her on here? People could directly support her really easily that way.

I've researched ways to stockpile food, and even US military rations only last about 4 years under optimal conditions. Pickled and canned food lasts about two years and most people recommend eating far before that. We had some bulk oats here and those were infected within seven months by little worms.

Can you recommend better ways to preserve food, seeds and etc?

mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. Hard, unprocessed grains are best, these have natural defenses (phytic acid) that slow down any bugs that would try to eat them.

Our grains didn't get infected despite being in the same kind of containers and same area. Interesting! Nice tips on the mylar and absorbers :)

MRE's will be edible far longer than that if kept in a cool and dry place.

Canned food lasts indefinitely unless the can is damaged and the seal is broken. That is not always true with canned meats though, so be more careful about them.

Glass jarred "canned" food lasts forever as long as the seals are never broken and they were prepared properly.

Rice lasts a very long time. Buy it, freeze the bag for three days (to kill any pests and their eggs), and then store it in rodent free containers. I recommend cheap galvanized steel trash cans.

Wheat stores forever as well in the wheat berry raw form. Just keep it away from rodents, and keep it sealed and dry. I have 300 pounds of wheat with electric and manual mills. My children will never go hungry no matter what happens.

This is somewhat related to residential security, so I may do a blog post about it. There are simple and effective ways to keep a lot of food in your house without wasting your money.

Edit: I made a post and gave credit to Anarchospace and Zerohedge for originally posting...

Excellent tips. I'll pass this along to my family and we can upgrade our own stores. I'd hate to lose another big load of provisions again.

How did you store your oats? Were they sealed up? Just curious.

Not airtight, they were in a plastic container.

What exactly happened in this video? Did all those bikers gang up on a truck full of provisions and loot it? The molotov seems counter-productive.

They were throwing the molotov's at the truck's front, far from the food. Yes, it appears to be a truck carrying bags of rice.

How is it that the world is full of examples of why collectivism is an idea virus, but people still run around talking about how great nelson mandela and che guevara and fidel castro were? Why don't they talk about how great Mao and Pol Pot and Stalin were? It's all the same thing!

Guess that's what happens when you trust actors, who spend their lives pretending to be something that they are not, to tell you something about history and philosophy and the greater nature of the world. Their pronouncements about society are just acting also.

Very true!
