RE: Mr Bluesky

Twitter used to be fun. I joined in 2011. There were a lot of bots, but also a nice vibe. Some nasty people would respond to my comments, but I could block them if they weren't polite. I never had the sense that my comments were filtered by the organization. There wasn't a hierarchy based on money. Everybody 'tweeted' for free. Since Musk took over there are accounts with checks that you pay for. Say something against him, and you are likely to get erased. Now he has it worked out that if you have a legal issue you have to sue him in a particular court in some Texas backwater. The court has a judge that leans his way and almost guarantees a positive outcome for Musk. He owns the platform and can do what he wants, but it no longer feels like the freewheeling place it was when I signed on. Just joined Bluesky and it feels like the original Twitter. If that turns out not to be true, well, I'll just go away. I love Hive but generally blog about family, pets, art, etc. I did get a little political in the last few weeks, but I don't want that to be the thrust of my blogs here. Bluesky is different. I will microblog about events of the day and they will in many cases be political.

Sort:

In the early days, Twitter was OK; I was late to the party, having invested most of my time in IRC, Jaiku and then identi.ca a for runner of Mastodon.

This is a controversial view, I know, but I have to partly agree with Elon Musk about how Twitter leaned so far left that a lifelong Conservative such as myself considered leaving. Then, once Elon bought it, a lot of the individuals whose views I disagree with decided to jump ship initially to my beloved Fediverse (Mastodon); however, they soon came crawling back, I presume, in the hope that "Maybe things aren't going to be that bad?" Then Trump came back along with one or two questionable individuals, and it was too much to bear, so a second exodus to Mastodon occurred, but yet again, some folk just couldn't let go of their daily fix of Taylor Swift or clickbait posts.

It seems to me 𝕏 has degenerated into a lousy experience, especially if, like me, you only have a Freebie account. My timeline is filled with Elon and Trump posts and numerous bots. I think deleting my account is slightly childish, similar to those who shout at airline check-in staff, "I'LL NEVER FLY WITH EL CHEAPO AGAIN!" I doubt El Cheapo gives a crap, and neither does Elon.

I have an account on Bluesky, but my timeline seems to be the flip side of my 𝕏 timeline. 98% left-wing with views that make me shout at the computer screen. Then again, I also shout at the computer screen on 𝕏, and now that's nearly 100% right-wing! 🤣
