A Breakdown of Social Media Algorithms
According to an article by Paige Cooper, the Instagram Algorithm is based on; relationship (does the user interact with you frequently?), interests, Timelines (was it posted recently?), frequency of use (how often does the user check?), following, and session time (how long does the user spend on the site?)
Currently, Facebook’s Algo is; relationship, content type, popularity (how many likes/engagements the posts get), and Recency (newer posts shown first). This is according to another article by Cooper.
I looked into several other popular platforms in regards to their algos. They all differ slightly. But the metrics that keep showing up in almost every platform which prioritize one account over another are; the amount of followership one has, the amount of activity a post gets (likes/engagements), and the amount of time spent on the platform.
