It took awhile for me to release this latest episode because it was difficult to make.
Kristy was assaulted while we were filming. Then, I was threatened on camera by the perpetrator for driving Kristy away from the camp.
And then, while in the car, Kristy tells me about the abuses she saw at the camp.
The drug dealing, the gang activity, a woman caught stealing being tied up.
This was life at this camp (and others like it).
Knowing this informs our view of these communities.
It also gets us asking, “Why don't you leave?" to those who live there.
I asked Kristy this very question in this episode.
But you could ask it to so many others staying in these encampment while seeing and experiencing these abuses.
This episode gets to the heart of this homelessness issue: That within many at these camps are traumatized emotions blocking their vision for a life beyond.
