A discarded banana peel. A piece of trash. It’s a useless piece of organic mass, yet it’s still bright yellow color against the monotonous grey and beige of its surroundings creates a more beautiful environment.
Just because it’s lost it’s use to most people, it now serves as a momentary decoration to brighten the day of passers by. Personally I don’t really care much for bananas in the first place as a food item, since they are chock full of sugar and not very kind to my body. But still, even if I feel like this simple tropical fruit might be my enemy, I can appreciate it’s colorful contribution to this dull scene.
Sometimes I feel like people can be the same way. There are certain people out there that others may regard as “trash” or invaluable to society, yet they still have value and contribute to the whole no matter how much others may try to hide or deny the fact. No person is trash, and if more people had the time to sit down, converse and understand each other better, we would all benefit as a whole.
Just because someone is poor, or disfigured, or a criminal, doesn’t take away their humanity. The quicker people in general realize this, the quicker societies ills can be solved. It’s too easy to pass by someone who is suffering, discarded and given up by so many others, and not feel the need to help. So many people dehumanize others to help themselves feel better about themselves, and that only hurts them as well as the others they are silently belittling...

I totally agree. We live in a society fueled by beauty. If people are not pleasing to the eye, we immediately devalue them. Ironically, the "discarded banana peels" may add more value than attractive people because they have had an opportunity to develop as a person without the constant undeserving praise/adoration their counterparts may receive.
I also wrote an article analyzing our society, specifically how we turn children into disastrous wrecks through entertainment. I would love to hear what you think! Danielle Bregoli (Catch me Outside) is the New Shirley Temple 🍭
What an amazing post. You are correct @theb0red1. So many people who are just on hard times are looked at as if they are contaminated. You never know how much someone needs just the smile in passing or that quick Hi, how are you today.
