Solarly's Crowdfunding
For more than a year, Solarly develops connected, autonomous and affordable Solar Home System that aim to integrate Blockchain through Solarcoin. and others ways. Solarcoin promote global solar electricity throught rewarding Solar electricity producers, like Steem incentivize intresting posts through rewarding authors.
We are about to launch our pilot phase of 6 months during which we will equip in electricity a village in the region of Bamenda in Cameroon.
Presentation of our project at the NestUp Demoday
The energetic problem in Africa
What would happen if we had no access to energy? No more light, no access to internet, no way to recharge our cell phone battery. You understood it very well: energy is the breeding ground of development; without energy, there is no possible growth.
Solarly supports the development of rural population in Sub-Saharan Africa by bringing a sustainable energy and life changing services.
Solarly designs, manufactures and installs Solar Home System of about 200W connected, autonomous and affordable, that offer an easy access to electricity, revenues opportunities and an energetic independence.
Our solar station allows to:
Today the populations of Sub Saharian Africa live day by day with a limited budget.
But Solarly offers its users or someone else to pay periodically by SMS (phone credits) or by cryptocurrencies substantially the same amount to their current spending on lighting (+/- 10€/month) for a predefined period of maximum 3 years. At the end of this period, the user owns the solar station.
This business model is highlighted in several reports (available here and here) as the solution to solar products financing problems in the developping countries.
An improved quality of life
The station offers several opportunities:
- Continue the activities after sunset.
- Allow children to study in healthy and appropriate conditions.
- Generate new incomes (hair dresser, recharge-point for cell phones,…)
- Access to clean and sustainable energy.
- At term, once the station is reimbursed, a total energy independence.
- A real time monitoring of the use of stations, allowing quality services.
First implementation in Bamenda
In September 2016, we will deploy about 30 solar stations in the villages of the Bamenda region in Cameroon. This will allow us all together to validate our implementation strategies and improve our product.
In order to realize this key step, we need a total amount of € 90.000 that will be funded through patrons, public and private institutions, but also thanks to your participation.
Cost of implementation
Objective of the crowdfunding
The funds obtained thanks to the crowdfunding will exclusively serve the financing, the transport and the installation of the first solar stations. It will also serve to pay wages and the training of employees on site.
With € 20.000
Funds will be allocated to our first implementation phase. These 6 first months will electrify 30 households by installing one station per household. It will also allow us to validate our partnership with local stakeholders and verify the behavior of our solar stations in real conditions. We can alsotrain a local person for the maintenance of the stations during 6 months.
With € 40.000
Funds will be used to deploy 30 additional stations. We can optimize the station in order toproduce them at a larger scale. In addition, we will be able to train a second local person for the solar station maintenance.
With 60.000 and more
Funds will be allocated to launch production at a larger scale as well as to train local actors in the assembly and maintenance of the products as well as prospecting.
Our implementation strategy wants to focus on creation of activities and employment. We want to give the Cameroon’s population the benefit of a transfer of competencies.
Solarly is a project. But it is first of all a multi-disciplinary and complementary team:
We met around shared values and the desire to contribute at our scale to the development of Africa with a solution that would facilitate access to energy.
We went there more than one year ago with a first prototype to confront ourselves to the reality of the field and get a first feedback from rural population, economic and politic actors.
It is through this journey that the Solarly project was born

I like the project! I'm looking forward to see how this test phase in Cameroun will end.
Solarly à vous!
This sounds promising!
Yes! It went well. See you soon (months) in Cameroon!
I’m running a similar project on www.sparasol.nu Sorry that it’s only in Swedish, but hopefully Google Translate with provide with an adequate enough idea of how it works. We have already helped to fun 6 different projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.
