Nicht übel: Mit einwandigen Kohlenstoffnanoröhren will ein Wissenschaftlerteam der Rice University die Effizienz von Solarzellen auf – Achtung! – 80 Prozent anheben. Dabei werden thermische, breitbandig strahlende Photonen im mittelwelligen Infrarotbereich mittels Nanoröhren wieder in schmalbandigere Lichtphotonen umgewandelt, die dann in Elektriziät konvertiert werden. Nachgewiesen haben die Wissenschaftler mittels Prototypen schon, dass es funktioniert.
