##OVERCOMING DIFFICULTIES AT THE BEGINNING OF OUR CHILDREN'S LIVES
Greetings friends of the Hive Community, this post is in support of the initiative of @miriannalis who, based on the values of Hive and the desire to support a Hiver appreciated by many within our Community, calls us to produce some content that promotes resilience in this colleague @graciadegenios, who has been facing some difficult situations with her son and needs our support. In that sense, in this post I will relate my own experience with my first child and how hope and support made us overcome that adversity.
When my oldest son was born it meant immense joy for my wife and me. He was our first child. I remember that when my wife got pregnant we started looking for a name for him. Will it be a boy? Will it be a girl? We decided to look in the Bible and the first page we opened showed Jonathan, so we named him Jonathan.
Fifteen days after his birth, we noticed that Jonathan was having trouble swallowing his mother's milk. He was throwing back all the milk he was drinking and cried and cried. We went to several doctors and none of them could find the problem. Then a friend of mine in the fire department recommended some sister doctors who were Jewish. We went there. They welcomed us, took care of us, checked the baby. One of them told us that it was a rare, atypical disease that affected first-time mothers who had boys.
This disease affected the passage of food into the stomach, since it was reducing the pylorus. He had to undergo emergency surgery. This was devastating for us. Sadness filled our souls. What will happen to our baby, we wondered.
We had to run the tests and other procedures to perform the operation. Luckily the doctor was head of pediatrics at the Pérez Carreño hospital. A public hospital west of Caracas. The doctor told us that a doctor would perform the operation.
The day before the operation we were told not to give the baby any food. So he spent 24 hours without eating anything. The next day, already to admit him to the operating room, they suspended the operation. He was unconscious. He was lying on a baby stretcher and a doctor who came up to the elevator when she saw him was surprised and asked us what was wrong. We quickly explained and she told us that it was urgent to feed him. How was it possible that he had been ordered to be kept for 24 hours without food, she said indignantly.
A few days went by and we were in anguish. Finally we were called to operate on the baby. I remember that to go to the operating room there is a corridor where the air current is very strong. The baby was only wearing the gown that they put on the patients who are going to be operated on.
In the end, the operation was a success. After a few days, the baby was eating too much. He was chubby. However, another discomfort arose. The adenoids had to be operated on. The doctors told us to wait a few months and do it soon.
All of these vicissitudes ultimately affected Jon's developmental process. Learning difficulties emerged. Again we had to go to specialists. Neuropediatricians, speech therapists, pediatricians, neurologists, etc. The head of pediatrics at the Vargas Hospital in Caracas, at that time, told us that the child would suffer from seizures, that he would not be a normal child, that he had to take medication for life. We decided to seek other opinions. And we came to the world of quantum and naturopathic medicine. A whole series of treatments with stones, medicinal plants, gave results.
Today my son is 28 years old. He has never had a seizure. He successfully completed his studies. He is a practicing evangelical Christian. He leads a normal life.
Learning from all this leads us to never lose hope, faith, to follow our intuitions, to never think that we cannot, and to never let ourselves fall into a spiral of negative, pessimistic thoughts. All human beings were born to succeed, it is up to us to ensure that these conditions prevail and are enhanced.
An important point to face and overcome traumatic experiences is to have social support that provides us with quality emotional support. Our resilience will be strengthened and we will be able to overcome any difficulty.
