"Where's that confounded bridge"
Así es! por fin comenzaré con algo que tenía mucho tiempo deseando hacer y compartir, no sólo con la comunidad de steemit si no con el mundo entero, espero esto pueda llegar a tantas personas como sea posible y aun si no es asi se que me divertíre muchisimo haciendolo. El dia de ayer publiqué mi segundo intento del #introduceyourself el cual salio muchísimo mejor y en dicha publicación anuncie que el dia de hoy comenzare con este segmento: #Alpventetopmusicrecords, en el cual básicamente todos los viernes elegiré alguno de los álbumes musicales que han tenido un impacto sobre mi tanto como persona como músico y haré una reseña de dicho álbum desde la primera canción hasta la última, también hablaré un poco sobre la historia del álbum y del músico o banda escogido.
Había comentado que hablaría de una banda legendaria y como ya pueden ver esa banda no es más que otra que Led Zeppelin, uno de los primeros supergrupos (este término deriva del hecho de que sus integrantes ya eran músicos exitosos antes de formar esta banda). Formada en Londres, Inglaterra en el año 1968 por: Jimmy Page (guitarras), Robert Plant (voces), John Paul Jones (bajo, teclados) y John Bonham (batería, percusión), este mítico grupo estuvo presente durante una de las épocas más importantes del rock y se les considera como precursores del heavy metal y hard rock, aunque en lo que a mí respecta su estilo es más bien una combinación de música folclórica británica-americana y rock and roll clásico, durante su existencia hicieron giras multitudinarias alrededor del mundo en muchos países de los cinco continentes, si bien tengo entendido fueron el primer grupo de rock en generar suficientes ingresos para tener su propio avion, asi es estan leyendo correctamente un AVIÓN privado en el cual podían viajar y hacer su trabajo cómodamente, además de eso inspiraron a toda una generación músicos que vendrán en los años siguientes y produjeron ocho (8) álbumes de estudio, cuatro (4) álbumes en vivo y algunas otras compilaciones, más una película original titulada The Song Remains the Same la cual saca su nombre de un tema perteneciente al disco que reseñare hoy.
Okay habiendo presentado superficialmente algo de la historia del grupo comencemos entonces. Houses of the Holy es el quinto disco de estudio de la banda, publicado el 28 de marzo de 1973 por Atlantic Records, fue producido por el mismo Page en conjunto con el trabajo de ingeniería y mezcla de Eddie Kramer (quien trabajó con muchos otros artistas populares de la época como The Beatles, Carlos Santana y Pink Floyd por citar algunos), en este punto Led Zep ya se había consagrado como uno de los mejores grupos de rock del momento, tomando en cuenta que el disco anterior Led Zeppelin IV contiene el tema más popular de la banda (Stairway to Heaven). Al igual que su predecesor el disco se grabó en el Rolling Stones Mobile Studio y muchos de los demos fueron hechos en el estudio casero de Page, lo cual le permitió experimentar en una escala mayor con el sonido y la dinámica de las composiciones (incluyendo elaborados arreglos de cuerdas). Ocho (8) temas componen el disco, los cuales debido a que en aquel entonces aún se utilizaban los vinilos están divididos en un lado A y lado B, una genial mezcla entre folk, rock, reggae y psicodelia.
(La portada del álbum fue diseñada por un grupo de artistas conocidos como Hipgnosis y muestra unos misteriosos niños aparentemente albinos que suben por unas rocas hacia lo que parece ser el sol naciente, este lugar existe realmente en Irlanda del norte y se conoce como The Giant's Causeway, un área que contiene unas 40 000 columnas de basalto provenientes del enfriamiento rápido de la lava en un cráter o caldera volcánica, esto ocurrió hace unos 60 millones de años. (Que hermoso e interesante ¿cierto?))
El primer tema del álbum se titula The Song Remains the Same, y desde el comienzo te golpea en la cara con un riff de guitarra que siempre me ha hecho sentir como si muchísima electricidad corriera por todo tu cuerpo y te invita a salir corriendo o saltando sin control, acompañado de un groove de bajo y batería agresivo este tema sin duda es de mis favoritos en el disco y es perfecto para iniciar un álbum de hard rock como este; La canción dura cinco (5) minutos con veinticuatro (24) segundos un poco extensa para los estándares de la música hoy en dia pero aun así este tema nunca aburre ya que así como comienza con tal agresividad y energía en algún punto la intensidad baja para crear una atmósfera de paz y tranquilidad que acompañada con la dulce voz de Plant es sencillamente encantador e ilusorio, luego el tema repite la fórmula; toma nuevamente esa velocidad con la que comienza y termina dejando en total calma el ambiente, considero que el éxito de esta canción se debe en un 60% al sonido y la estructura de los riffs de guitarra (específicamente en el minuto 4:43 aparece uno de estos riffs con tal ataque y definición que siempre que lo escucho me pone la piel de gallina). Page utilizo una guitarra Rickenbacker de 12 cuerdas y una Fender Telecaster.
Automáticamente luego de que The Song Remains the Same termina comenzamos a escuchar unos dulces acordes de guitarra (tanto acústica como eléctrica) que literalmente siempre he sentido me hacen ascender a los cielos (la razón por la que ambas canciones se mezclan de manera tan perfecta es por que en un comienzo The Song Remains the Same se titulaba Overture y estaba pensada precisamente como eso: una obertura para este segundo track). El tema se titula The Rain Song y debo confesar que esta entre mi top cinco (5) de canciones favoritas en todo el mundo; la composición, el sonido y las voces de Plant, la hermosura de los arreglos orquestales, los detalles sutiles de teclados y piano más la precisas apariciones de líneas de bajo te van llevando por una armoniosa caminata entre bosques, ríos, montañas y jardines, que terminan en un estruendoso y épico final. No quiero profundizar mucho en esta canción específicamente ya que me parece tan majestuosa que en cierta forma me deja sin palabras y prefiero dejarlos con el clip y la interpretación en vivo que hizo la banda para la película que previamente mencione, pero si agregare que la razón principal de Page para escribir este tema fue de hecho por un comentario que hizo George Harrison (guitarrista de The Beatles) diciendo que Led Zeppelin nunca componía baladas, esto lo motivó a escribirla e inclusive los acordes principales son los mismos que George utilizó para su canción "Something".
Over the Hills and Far Away es el nombre del tercer track, el cual comienza nuevamente con arreglos de guitarra muy al estilo de canciones folclóricas inglesas mezcladas con algo de blues norteamericano; las cuales son en mi opinión muy divertidas y saltarinas, al cabo aparece la voz sutil de Plant cantando acerca de una señorita y vivir estilos de vida hippie al aire libre. Repentinamente la canción hace un cambio de 360 grados y se convierte en una deliciosa, movida y pesada pieza de rock and roll que eventualmente después de unos dos o tres cortos versos da paso en una sección muy funky con un solo de guitarra armonizado, finalmente justo antes de que la canción termine ocurre algo que me parece fantástico y genial: mientras el resto de la banda se desvanece (en cuestión de volumen) una guitarra que pareciera ser de doce (12) cuerdas se queda haciendo lo que en este momento sin estar muy seguro dire que es un acorde de Sol Mayor y levemente podemos apreciar como nuevamente sube el volumen para terminar está feliz pieza en un bello arreglo de guitarra acompañado con un órgano o teclado muy típico de esta banda.
Para finalizar el lado A de como originalmente era el álbum en su formato de vinilo aparece: The Crunge, esta composición también es bastante funky y se le acredita al baterista de la banda John Bonham la cual se le ocurrió durante un jam, es en cierta forma un tributo a James Brown (popular cantante norteamericano de soul y funk) tanto por el ritmo y sonido como por la forma de cantar de Plant, sobretodo ya que al final de la canción melódicamente comienza a hacer la pregunta "have you seen the bridge?" y termina diciendo de manera hablada la frase que utilice al comienzo de esta publicación (aparentemente James Brown usualmente en sus presentaciones decía "take it to the bridge" refiriéndose al puente musical de una composición). Otro aspecto que me gusta mucho de esta canción también se lo acreditó a Plant; debido a que durante la canción el habla sobre su amante y en un punto de la canción canta la frase "and when she talks, SHE talks!" (y cuando ella habla, ELLA habla), la intención con que lo dice y el carácter tan cínico de esta me da mucha risa.
El lado B del disco comienza triunfante con el tema Dancing Days y creanme cuando les digo que este título no es en vano, este excelente y delicioso ritmo combinado con el venenoso riff de guitarra de Page te hará bailar si o si o al menos sacudir la cabeza y el cabello, siempre que escucho esta canción imagino que voy en un automóvil dirigiéndome a una pradera llena de gente feliz que solo quiere bailar y soltar el cuerpo (generalmente ese es el feel que me da todo el álbum, pero se hace más vivido con este track); Además que según recuerda el ingeniero Eddie Kramer cuando la banda y el escucharon la mezcla final de la canción en el jardín del estudio donde se encontraban, todos se pusieron a bailar alrededor del lugar. El sonido del teclado que acompaña a la guitarra durante el segundo verso también es adorable, suena como el chillido de gatitos robóticos y para concluir, la temática de la letra me parece fascinante y edificante, con frases como: "you are my power you are my flower" (eres mi poder eres mi flor) la influencia de la cultura hippie que en ese preciso momento estaba tan presente es muy inspiradora incluso hoy en día, al menos para mi. Esta es definitivamente otro de mis tracks favoritos en este precioso álbum.
A continuación aparece un híbrido musical el cual es muy atrevido e inventivo el título de la canción es D'yer Mak'er lo que es un juego de palabras para referirse a "Jamaica" dicho con acento inglés y como expresa el título la canción esta está inspirada por el ritmo jamaiquino del reggae pero levemente fusionada con ritmos norteamericanos como el R&B, definitivamente un invento fuera de serie y adelantado a su época, también sacada de la creatividad de Bonham. Muchos críticos destruyeron y odiaron a la banda por esta canción en particular, en mi opinión la composición no suena tan a reggae como usualmente el reggae nativo de jamaica lo hace, pero nuevamente la intención era hacer una fusión y honestamente no es una de mis canciones favoritas pero tampoco me disgusta, esta bien se puede escuchar y le doy crédito a Zep por ser así de atrevidos.
Ahora el siguiente tema titulado No Quarter debo admitir que es el que menos disfruto en todo el álbum, principalmente me parece que es muy extenso con una duración de siete (7) minutos! (el más largo de todo el álbum de hecho) en el cual básicamente la banda se mantiene constantemente entre dos secciones las cuales para mi se hacen un poco aburridas. Si, hay varios sonidos y frases de teclados y guitarra que aprecio, pero en general pienso que la atmósfera y la vibra de esta canción no se mezcla mucho con el de las demás, la canción es un tanto psicodélica pero en mi opinión este género nunca fue el fuerte de Led Zeppelin. Otro dato curioso es que es la única canción del disco escrita por el bajista John Paul Jones.
Sin embargo para cerrar con broche de oro tenemos a The Ocean la cual comienza con la voz de John Bonham diciendo: "We've done four already but now we're steady and then they went, 1, 2, 3, 4", refiriendose a el numero de tomas grabadas que llevaban en ese punto. A diferencia de la canción que precede a esta, este tema es en definitiva el fuerte de Led Zep, rock and roll agresivo con un swagger sexy para mover el cuerpo de un lado al otro, riffs de guitarra groseros y rebeldes, con un groove de bajo y batería bien pisados y marcados aderezados con la voz explosiva de Robert Plant, además con un leve y agradable detalle justo a mitad de la composición en el cual Plant, Bonham y Jones cantan una suave melodía acapella muy al estilo de viejas canciones norteamericanas de los años cincuenta (50), para cerrar con una sección energética y ruidosa que culmina con la voz de Plant diciendo "so good".
Hay otros tres (3) temas que se grabaron durante las sesiones de este álbum que no aparecieron en él debido a cuestiones de espacio en los vinilos, como por ejemplo y curiosamente el que le da el título al álbum "Houses of the Holy" sin embargo estos luego aparecieron en álbumes posteriores.
En conclusión, este álbum es sin duda una joya para los amantes del rock, hard rock, heavy metal, rock and roll y folk rock, e inclusive me atrevo a decir que cualquier amante de la música sea el género que prefieran encontrará en este trabajo; El cual tiene una duración total de cuarenta (40) minutos con cincuenta siete (57) segundos, un ambiente y una vibra digna de escuchar al menos una vez en la vida, definitivamente cambió la mía y desde la primera vez que lo escuche no he podido dejar de hacerlo, sobretodo el segundo track The Rain Song el cual vuelvo y repito y no me cansare jamas de decir es una de las composiciones más bellas que he escuchado, sencillamente este álbum tiene una magia profunda que resuena con algo que está dentro de mi corazón y mi mente, una rebelión sin sentido que constantemente me recuerda sólo envejecen los que así se lo permiten y un viaje precioso por la naturaleza que puedes realizar sentado frente a la computadora o en algun autobus con tus audífonos puestos.
A quienes pueda interesar, hoy en dia Led Zeppelin no se encuentra activo como tal, realmente se separaron en el año 1980 debido a que John Bonham murió asfixiado por su propio vómito mientras estaba alcoholizado, pero los tres miembros restantes quienes aún siguen vivos han hecho reuniones y conciertos e incluso DVD's en vivo junto con el hijo de Bonham, Jason. Además de tener carreras como solistas y colaboraciones entre ellos específicamente Page y Plant los cuales hicieron un par de discos juntos, esta legendaria banda no se gano ese titulo solo por que si, realmente definieron una época e inspiraron a muchos músicos y artistas alrededor de todo el mundo y hoy en dia lo siguen haciendo, su trabajo perdurará en la historia de la música y el rock ya que como dije antes todas estas canciones muy en el fondo tienen una magia y un encanto que floreció de la química y constancia de estos cuatro (4) talentosos caballeros. Para mi siempre vivirán en mi interior vivos o muertos, juntos o separados y es algo que agradezco eternamente asi nunca tenga la oportunidad de conocerlos en persona pues en cierta forma escuchándolos aprendí mucho y logro conectarme con la fuente original a través de sus canciones.

This is it! I will finally start with something that I had a long time wishing to do and share, not only with the steemit community but with the entire world, I hope this can reach as many people as possible and even if it is not so I know I will have a lot of fun doing it . Yesterday I published my second attempt at #introduceyourself which came out much better and in that publication I announced that today I will start with this segment: # Alpventetopmusicrecords, in which basically every Friday I will choose one of the musical albums that had an impact on me both as a person and as a musician and I will review this album from the first song to the last, I will also talk a little about the history of the album and the chosen musician or band.
I had commented that I would talk about a legendary band and as you can see that band is nothing more than Led Zeppelin, one of the first * supergroups * (this term derives from the fact that its members were already successful musicians before of forming this band). Formed in London, England in 1968 by: Jimmy Page (guitars), Robert Plant (vocals), John Paul Jones (bass, keyboards) and John Bonham (drums, percussion), this mythical group was present during one of the most important times of rock and they are considered as precursors of heavy metal and hard rock, although as far as I am concerned their style is rather a combination of British-American folk music and classic rock and roll, during their existence they made massive tours around of the world in many countries of the five continents, as I understand they were the first rock group to generate enough income to have their own plane, yes you are reading correctly a private PLANE in which they could travel and make their work comfortably, in addition to that they inspired an entire generation of musicians who will come in the following years and produced eight (8) studio albums, four (4) live albums and some other compilations, plus an original film entitled * The Song Remains the Same * which takes its name from a song belonging to the album I will review today.
Okay, having superficially presented some of the group's history, let's start then. Houses of the Holy is the band's fifth studio album, released on March 28, 1973 by Atlantic Records, it was produced by Page himself in conjunction with the engineering and mixing work of Eddie Kramer (who worked with many other popular artists of the time such as The Beatles, Carlos Santana and Pink Floyd to name a few), at this point Led Zep had already established itself as one of the best rock groups of the moment, taking into account that the previous album * Led Zeppelin IV * contains the most popular theme of the band (Stairway to Heaven). Like its predecessor, the disc was recorded in the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio and many of the demos were made in the home studio of Page, which allowed him to experiment on a larger scale with the sound and dynamics of the compositions (including elaborated string arrangements). Eight (8) songs make up the album, which because vinyl was still used at that time is divided into a side A and side B, a great mix between folk, rock, reggae and psychedelia.
(The cover of the album was designed by a group of artists known as Hypnosis, and shows mysterious, apparently albino children who climb rocks towards what appears to be the rising sun, this place really exists in Northern Ireland and is known as The Giant's Causeway, an area that contains about 40,000 basalt columns from the rapid cooling of lava in a crater or volcanic caldera, this happened about 60 million years ago. (How beautiful and interesting, right?))
The first track of the album is titled The Song Remains the Same, and from the beginning it hits you in the face with a guitar riff that has always made me feel as if a lot of electricity was running all over your body and inviting you to run or jump out of control, accompanied by a groove of bass and aggressive drums, this song is certainly one of my favorites on the album and is perfect for starting a hard rock album like this; The song lasts five (5) minutes with twenty-four (24) seconds a bit extensive for the standards of music today but even so this theme never bores since just as it begins with such aggressiveness and energy at some point lowers the intensity and creates an atmosphere of peace and tranquility that accompanied by the sweet voice of Plant is simply charming and illusory, then the theme repeats the formula; Takes that speed again with which it begins and ends leaving the atmosphere in total calm, I consider that the success of this song is due in 60% to the sound and structure of the guitar riffs (specifically in the 4:43 minute one of these riffs appear with such an attack and definition that whenever I hear it it gives me goosebumps). Page used a 12-string Rickenbacker guitar and a Fender Telecaster.
Automatically after The Song Remains the Same ends we begin to hear some sweet guitar chords (both acoustic and electric) that I have literally always felt make me ascend to the heavens (the reason why both songs mix so perfectly it's because in the beginning The Song Remains the Same was titled Overture and was thought precisely like that: an overture for this second track). The theme is titled The Rain Song and I must confess that it is among my top five (5) of favorite songs worldwide; Plant's vocals, composition, sound and the beauty of the orchestral arrangements, the subtle details of keyboards and piano plus the precise appearances of bass lines take you along a harmonious walk between forests, rivers, mountains and gardens, which ends in a thunderous and epic ending. I don't want to go deep into this song specifically since it seems so majestic that in a way it leaves me speechless and I prefer to leave you with the clip and the live performance that the band made for the movie that I previously mentioned, but I will add that the reason Page wrote this song was in fact by a comment made by George Harrison (guitarist of The Beatles) saying that Led Zeppelin never composed ballads, this motivated him to write it and even the main chords are the same as George used for his song "Something."
Over the Hills and Far Away is the name of the third track, which begins again with guitar arrangements very much like English folk songs mixed with some American blues; which are in my opinion very funny and jumpy, gradually the subtle voice of Plant singing about a lady and living hippie outdoor lifestyles appears and suddenly the song makes a 360 degree change and becomes a delicious, moving and heavy piece of rock and roll that eventually after about two or three short verses gives way to a very funky section with a harmonized guitar solo, finally just before the song ends something happens that seems fantastic and genious to me: while the rest of the band fades away (in a matter of volume) a guitar that seems to be twelve (12) strings stays doing what at this moment without being very sure to say is a chord of G Major and slightly we can appreciate how the volume rises again to finish this happy piece in a beautiful guitar arrangement accompanied by an organ or keyboard very typical of this band.
To end side A of what was originally the album in its vinyl format appears: The Crunge, this composition is also quite funky and is credited to the drummer of the band John Bonham which occurred to him during a jam , it is in a way a tribute to James Brown (popular American singer of soul and funk) both because of the rhythm and sound as well for the way of Plant's singing , especially since at the end of the song melodically he begins to ask the question "have you seen the bridge? " and he ends up saying in a spoken way the phrase i used at the beginning of this publication (apparently James Brown usually in his presentations said "take it to the bridge" referring to the musical bridge of a composition). Another aspect that I really like about this song is also credited to Plant; because during the song he talks about his lover and at one point in the song he sings the phrase "and when she talks, SHE talks!", the intention with which he says it and the cynical character of it makes me laugh so much.
The B side of the album begins triumphantly with the theme Dancing Days and believe me when I tell you that this title is not in vain, this excellent and delicious rhythm combined with Page's poisonous guitar riff will make you dance you want it or not or at least will make you shake your head and hair, whenever I listen to this song I imagine that I'm in a car heading to a meadow full of happy people who just want to dance and let go of their bodies (usually that's the feeling that the whole album gives me, but it becomes more vivid with this track); In addition, as engineer Eddie Kramer recalls when the band and he heard the final mix of the song in the studio garden where they were, everyone started dancing around the place. The sound of the keyboard that accompanies the guitar during the second verse is also adorable, it sounds like the squeak of robotic kittens and to conclude, the theme of the lyrics seems fascinating and edifying, with phrases such as: "you are my power you are my flower " the influence of the hippie culture that was so present at that moment is very inspiring even today, at least for me. This is definitely another of my favorite tracks on this beautiful album.
Next is a musical hybrid which is very bold and inventive the title of the song is D'yer Mak'er what is a pun to refer to "Jamaica" said with an English accent and as expressed The title of the song is inspired by the Jamaican rhythm of reggae but slightly fused with American rhythms such as R&B, definitely an invention out of series and ahead of its time, also taken from the creativity of Bonham. Many critics destroyed and hated the band for this particular song, in my opinion the composition does not sound as reggae as usually the native Jamaican reggae does, but again the intention was to make a fusion and honestly it is not one of my favorite songs but I don't dislike it either, it's okay to listen and I give Zep credit for being that bold.
Now the next song entitled No Quarter I must admit that it is the least one i enjoy in the entire album, mainly I think it is very extensive with a duration of seven (7) minutes! (the longest of all the album in fact) in which basically the band is constantly kept between two sections which for me are a bit boring. Yes, there are several sounds and phrases of keyboards and guitar that I appreciate, but in general I think that the atmosphere and vibes of this song does not mix much with that of the others, the song is somewhat psychedelic but in my opinion this genre was never Led Zeppelin's fort. Another curious fact is that it is the only song on the album written by bassist John Paul Jones.
However to close with a flourish we have The Ocean which begins with the voice of John Bonham saying: "We've done four already but now we're steady and then they went, 1, 2, 3, 4 ", referring to the number of recorded shots they carried at that point. Unlike the song that precedes this, this theme is definitely the strong of Led Zep, aggressive rock and roll with a sexy swagger to move the body from one side to the other, rude and rebellious guitar riffs, with a groove of bass and drums well trodden and marked seasoned with the explosive voice of Robert Plant, also with a slight and pleasant detail just in the middle of the composition in which Plant, Bonham and Jones sing a soft melody acapella very much like the old American songs of the fifties (50), to close with an energetic and noisy section that culminates in Plant's voice saying "so good".
There are three (3) tracks that were recorded during the sessions of this album that did not appear on it due to issues of vinyl space, such as and curiously, the one that gives the title to the album "Houses of the Holy" However, these later appeared in later albums.
In conclusion, this album is undoubtedly a jewel for lovers of rock, hard rock, heavy metal, rock and roll and folk rock, and I even dare to say that any music lover whichever genre they prefer will find in this work ; Which has a total duration of forty (40) minutes with fifty seven (57) seconds, an environment and a vibe worthy of listening at least once in a lifetime, definitely it changed mine and since the first time I heard it I haven't stop doing so, especially the second track The Rain Song which I repeat and will never tire of saying it is one of the most beautiful compositions I have ever heard, this album simply has a deep magic that resonates with something that is inside My heart and my mind, a senseless rebellion that constantly reminds me aging is only for those who allow it, and a beautiful trip through nature that you can do sitting in front of the computer or on a bus with your headphones on.
To those who may be interested, today Led Zeppelin is not active as such, they really separated in 1980 because John Bonham died asphyxiated by his own vomit while he was alcoholized, but the three remaining members who are still alive have done meetings and concerts and even live DVD's along with Bonham's son, Jason. In addition to having careers as soloists and collaborations between them specifically Page and Plant which made a couple of albums together, this legendary band did not win that title just because, they really defined an era and inspired many musicians and artists around the world and today they continue to do it, their work will last in the history of music and rock since as I said before all these songs deep down have a magic and a charm that flourished from the chemistry and constancy of these four (4) talented gentlemen. For me they will always live inside me alive or dead, together or separately and it is something that I am eternally grateful for even if I never have the opportunity to meet them in person because in some way by listening to them I learned a lot and managed to connect with the original source through their songs.
