Want a job that pays between $124,000 and $187,000 annually? Then check out NASA, who have just announced a job opening for what is being called the "the greatest job titles ever conceived" : A planetary protection officer!
And the job function? Well it seems like the officer shall be responsible for "saving" the world from aliens and alien contamination, as well as protecting space and other planets out there, from us humans!

Before you go "about time with this", the three- to five-year appointment will let you work with really smart people and the best scientists in the world, but you shall be free of normal corporate pressures, and never have to manage anyone or anything.
Except space!
And it is about time we thought of what we as a race are doing to space. We have littered space without an effective garbage disposal program, and today the space around earth is full of dead satellites and launch debris, which over the years is becoming a real problem.
Also the extent to which we are contaminating space has not been worked out as yet, but if the situation of our planet is any indicator, then I guess this is a welcome initiative from NASA at this crucial juncture.
