Amazon’s Founder Wants To Send Tourists To Space

We are living in a very interesting period in human history. For the first time, we humans, who developed into our current forms over millions of years of evolution solely on Earth, are looking to the skies and beyond.

Not only are we searching for other places in our solar system to serve as a second home, we are also now eagerly awaiting the progress of technology to a point where the common man can explore beyond the limits of the sky.

I think everyone in their childhood looked up on countless starry nights and wondered what was out there and how Earth looked from space and how the different heavenly bodies exist in relation to each other and what they looked like.

Well, if some of the key players in the world have their ways, we will get that answer within our lifetimes and boy, would that be one of the biggest achievements of humanity.

Space Tourism - A Dream Beyond Imagination

When I travel on airplanes, I can’t help but keep looking up even when the plane is at its highest point and I just wish I could travel even further up. I am sure a lot of you do too.

The astronauts who’ve been to space tell us that it’s an experience beyond anything we can even imagine and it changes you, your worldview, your view on existence and life itself. That to me sounds exactly like I had thought it would be.

I mean, we all are busy in our lives constantly hunching over our screens, living in a tiny bubble and often forget the immensity of the universe. To be able to get a glimpse of that in space, would surely be eye opening, in the least and life changing at best.

We are lucky to be living in an era where we are quickly progressing our technology that soon we might be able to travel to the orbit or even the moon and Mars some day just like we travel to other countries around the world.

Jeff Bezos Wants Tourists In Space. And Fast!

I love keeping tabs on what’s going on in this space. (pun not intended). And you might disagree with me here, but I’m glad that private individuals and entities have taken up the initiative to spearhead the development in this realm.

I mean we went to the moon in the 1969 and it’s been almost 50 years and we haven’t managed to land a human on Mars. Government space agencies have been doing great work, but they need to do it faster.

This is where people like Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon come into play. Through his separate company called Blue Origin, he is looking to make space tourism a common place reality for us all.

In fact, they will begin selling tickets for suborbital space flights in 2019, as they are growing more and more confident about their New Shepard rocket that they’ve been testing since 2015.

Don’t get your hopes up too high though. As with every breakthrough technology, it is highly expensive in the beginning and right now, only the wealthiest will be able to afford it. But, as with all other technologies, this will get cheaper, safer, more reliable and viable for the common people.

Jeff Bezos isn’t alone though. The eccentric Elon Musk, with his company SpaceX is also on the same path and are planning a week long trip around the Moon for customers, which recently got delayed and is now scheduled for 2019.

Virgin Galactic, founded by Richard Branson, is yet another company looking to do the same, though they’ve seen their fare share of delays as well.

It’s difficult to say which of these companies will be the first one to launch humanity to this exciting new age, but to me it doesn’t matter. What matters is getting there, and it might not be too long now.

Sort:

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this is somehow made available to the rich minority in the next ten years or so, because when it comes to exploitation, we humans are masters.

Even if we learn how to use something upto it's greatest potential, we still long for even better alternative ideas to discover even greater possibilities.

If space tourism becomes a thing (and I hope it does), it will open up a whole new set of discoveries and possibly spark curiosity in millions of young minds.

Yes, initially it will be available to the super rich. It's not due to exploitation though. Any groundbreaking technology costs A LOT, when it is initially launched. That's just the way it is. Do some research into how much launching a rocket to space costs today (even after all the progress recently by these private space companies).

But what always happens is that, over time, as more progress is made, and as more and more people are using that tech, it gets cheaper. That's just the way technology works. So, in a way, those rich dudes using it in the beginning are actually helping in the long run to make this available for everyone.

I still start counting stars in the night whenever I got the time.
Personally I have not take a flight till date. But whenever I see in the sky wants to go beyond that touch the stars ....i wish jeff bezos could help me to go there😝😝😝@sauravrungta

hehe yeah, I do too. It's just an amazing feeling. I can't wait to get on a rocket to space. :)

@sauravrungta I think we should remember #Elon-musk contribution in rocketscience. I think #Elon-musk has already created traveling to space reasonable. Now if Amazon is entering in rocket science field then it may become challenge for #Elon-musk.

Oh yes, Elon Musk has been one of the most influential people in the space and I am a huge fan of his. Amazon's Jeff Bezos is not a new entrant into the space though. He has been in this field for 18 years now :)

From sale goods at virtual online store to sending human to real space journey. Jeff bezos is a ture visionary. He saw a opportunity 10 years ago in online trading now he eyes to outerspace travel companies. Most of the people are thinking that it just a big bet or bluff on investing this high technology and sci fi reality. But a this guy already change the way of our living through Amazon. And now he will add new are travel destinations in mankind map through spaceX. Reply back what you think. Will he change the world again

We are lucky that we have visionaries like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and others who don't give a single though about what the skeptics say. I wonder why the skeptics even try. Throughout history they have been proven wrong again and again and the human race just keeps pushing forward. One would think they would give up by now. LOL!!

Nice information, Thanks Sir.

Thanks for reading :)

That would be great if space travelling comes to real but i think this would definitely take some years for a common man to afford it. Nice information sir @sauravrungta .

Yup I agree! It's going to be quite a while before the average person can afford a trip to space.

Wow ! Space tourism is an awesome concept ! And it is a platter for the wealthy. Like all other good things !!!

The future is upon us ! In every sense :)

Right now, it's surely only for the wealthiest of the wealthy. But like with all other technologies, it will become more and more affordable with time :) The future is surely upon us.

:) :) True :)
