Absolutely, it's nice to feel involved with a genuine community. For what it's worth, I think that it's more valuable than a couple of dollars here & there.
Not that I'm saying no to the dollars though...

None of us are saying no to the dollars. :)
But I feel that the dollars will be worth more if the platform and community overall are of higher quality.
And if people were to like Steemit even during, say, low rewards, it would make Steemit stronger.
