¿Qué es para ti la honestidad?

What is honesty to you?

Cuando estábamos niños para muchos de nosotros la honestidad se refería a no decir mentiras sobre el hecho de lo que hacíamos o decíamos en un momento determinado. Se nos inculcaba a decir la verdad con el miedo de no ser regañados o castigados por nuestros padres.

When we were children, for many of us, honesty referred to not telling lies about what we were doing or saying at a certain time. We were inculcated to tell the truth in fear of not being scolded or punished by our parents.

Más adelante y cómo seres pensantes y sientientes que somos y que no podemos negarlo, nos fuimos dando cuenta, algunos por nuestros propios medios y otros con la guía y apoyo de nuestros padres, familiares o amigos, de que la honestidad va más allá de decir simplemente la verdad sobre nuestras palabras o hechos. Pero entonces ¿qué es la honestidad?

Later and as thinking and feeling beings that we are and that we cannot deny it, some of us realized by our own means and others with the guidance and support of our parents, family or friends, that honesty goes beyond simply saying the truth about our words or deeds. But then what is honesty?

La honestidad señala a una sola experiencia de la vida en la cual al sentirnos y reconocernos podemos conectamos con quienes realmente somos, nos conectamos con nuestras emociones y pensamientos y sabemos con plena seguridad qué estamos sintiendo y por qué estamos sintiéndolo sin que ello implique comunicarlo.

Honesty indicates a single experience of life in which by feeling and recognizing ourselves we can connect with who we really are, we connect with our emotions and thoughts and we know with complete security what we are feeling and why we are feeling it without implying communicating it.

Ciertamente, la clave de toda relación se basa en la comunicación pero no en la comunicación desprovista de este sentimiento de conexión y profunda intimidad. La clave de toda relación es la comunicación honesta, entonces al ser honestos con nosotros mismos aprendemos a comunicarnos sin señalar porque ya no se trata de los demás sino de nosotros mismos.

Certainly the key to any relationship is based on communication but not communication devoid of this feeling of connection and deep intimacy. The key to any relationship is honest communication, so by being honest with ourselves we learn to communicate without pointing out because it is no longer about others but about ourselves.

En pocas palabras la honestidad es el acto propio de quien se conoce a sí mismo y se sabe como único responsable de sus pensamientos, sentimientos y emociones. Empecemos a ser honestos, el primer paso es mirar hacia nosotros mismos.

In a few words, honesty is the act of someone who knows himself and is solely responsible for his thoughts, feelings and emotions. Let's start to be honest, the first step is to look at ourselves.
