In the ninth century of our era the Arabic physician Johannitius invented the terms melancholic, sanguine, phlegmatic and angry to describe the types of men produced by the effects of humors on the body. Dr. Robert Burton describes the qualities of humors in the human beings arriving at the following classification of the four groups of temperaments:
1-The Phlegmatic: phlegmatic people are sleepy, somber, slow, blocked, are very crying, and are comfortable in the water, ponds, swamps, rivers, fishing, hunting birds, etc. Pale color, lazy, fit for sleep, heavy, very disturbed by the headache, continually meditate and mutter to themselves, dream of water, who are in danger of drowning, and feel things like that. They are thicker, sallow complexion, like to spit and sleep, more vulnerable to rheumatism than others, and have their eyes fixed on the ground.
2- The Bloodthirsty: Commonly reddish and reddened skin. The veins of his eyes are red, like his face. Very inclined to laughter wit and joy, presumed in the speech, nice if it does not go too far, very given to music, dancing and being in the company of women. Imagine watching comedies, dances and sports.
3- The Choleric: They are bold and immodest and very casquivana disposition, ready to fight and think about such things: battles, battles and their manhood, furious, impatient speech, rigid, irrefutable and prodigious in their dogas; and if they are shaken violently or outraged, they are disposed to disgrace, provoke anyone, and can kill themselves or others.
4- The Melancholy: Usually they are sad and lonely, and this continuously and in excess, more suspicious of the ordinary, more fearful, and have long, painful and corrupt imaginations; cold and black, shy, and so lonely that they can not stand company; they dream of graves and dead men, and they consider themselves bewitched or dead, if this becomes extreme they believe they hear hidden noises, conversely familiar with demons, and have strange visions, or think they are possessed by them, that someone speaks to them or is in its interior.
What is your temperament or do you have a mixture of several?
