What Does Online Speech Therapy Look Like? | Speech Therapy Cebu

Instead of going to a clinic or hospital, online speech therapy provides virtual therapy sessions in the comfort of your home. All you need is a webcam, a headset, and a stable internet connection. It is possible to use a tablet, but we highly recommend using a laptop or PC. The Online Speech Studio provides virtual therapy sessions with certified speech-language pathologists (SLPs), making quality speech therapy accessible to everyone.

How does it work?

The patient can book an appointment through e-mail or our Facebook messenger. Once you have an appointment with your speech therapist, we will reach out with a meeting link to access your therapy. In most cases, in the first session, we evaluate the client’s speech and language skills to determine the areas of improvement. The patient (or the primary caregiver) will be requested to fill out a form with questions about the patient’s medical history. If the patient had therapy somewhere else and has a complete assessment, we can proceed straight to therapy.

The duration and frequency of therapy sessions depend on the assessment and the needs of the patient. Typically sessions last for 30 to 60 minutes and are scheduled once or twice a week. Most therapy sessions are one-on-one, although in some cases we offer therapy in small groups (this can help the patient achieve better results if working on communication skills).

Your speech therapist will use different resources to create interactive therapy sessions. Through pictures, videos, online games, and online worksheets the therapist will work on the client’s articulation, language, or fluency skills. The SLP will document the sessions online and give the client access to those notes. Worksheets and home program activities will be given to the clients for self-practice and use in daily activities. It works just the same as face-to-face therapy but in a virtual setting.

Online speech therapy gives flexibility in scheduling. Clients don’t need to drive back and forth to attend sessions. Online speech therapy is the best option for busy family members or working patients who have limited time.

Thanks for this Shanna! We might be availing this kind of service in the future. We noticed that there's some kind of delay in speech with our daughter but we are not yet 100% sure on that. Still monitoring her as medyo bata pa naman.
