Accepting crypto payments - for shop owners

in #spendhbd20 hours ago

Any shop owner operating an Android-based payment terminal (VivaWallet, Servipay, the newer Worldline terminals) can in principle begin accepting HBD and Lightning network payments in addition to usual credit card payments, with no overhead whatsoever.

The very first step for the shop owner is to create a Hive account. We have created one for Indie's (@indies.cafe ), gave the owner the keys and taught him how to change the password. Once the owner controls the keys, he can start receiving HIVE and HBD payments on that account.

We have created a visual step-by-step guide that you can see in the figure below

Prepare the device

The first trick is to realize that, behind a machine that looks like a dedicated payment terminal, there actually is ... just a fancy-looking Android phone with an attached NFC reader. It all thus starts with swiping up from the lower end of the screen to make the Android controls appear at the bottom of the screen

The payment app (VivaWallet, etc.) can then be minimized and a typical Android "desktop" appears, including (normally), an icon for the Google Chrome browser. Launch the browser, navigate to v4v.app of @brianoflondon and select the "Sales" tab

Set up the payment

Swipe right and set the currency to euro € - or refresh it if necessary
Check the account that is going to receive the payment - here, @indies.cafe
Enter the amount in € using comma as decimal separator (not the dot like in the US)
Check visually that the dollar equivalent is coherent (sometimes there might be small glitches or mis-configurations)

Generate QR Code

Select either Hive Dollar or Bitcoin Lightning. The app generates a QR code for the customer to scan.
Depending on the customer's phone, the QR code can be scanned with the phone camera (for newer phones) or with the Ecency mobile app of @good-karma QR code scanner or with the Hive Keychain mobile app of @stoodkev.
After the transaction is confirmed by the customer, the shop owner can confirm visually that the payment succeeded thanks to the green checkbox and the little confetti animation on his terminal (see the short movie below).

We have laminated this short guide and stuck it next to the cashier of the Indie's as can be seen in the picture.

In the short movie attached you can see one of the first real payments, under the control of the owner, from November 22, 2024

Very nice, it was great to see your video, and it is a matter of happiness for us that you did it in an Indian cafe. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
